You have a ton of personal fortitude, for which the world is better off because of it.

Good on yer, Doug.

On Saturday I visited a very dear friend who I had not seen in over a year. She is in the advanced stages of MS and has done every treatment known. She is very frank about her fate, but is also upbeat and humorous about her condition. I thought I was going to see her to cheer her up - I am such a dumbass.....

Brunswick Ga was a stop on my ride... there was a lady who went well out of her way to meet us and talk to us. She brought the paper and a donation and told me her story.

6 month ago she was not walking or getting out of bed on her own, 3 months ago she was walking with a walker and now she was walking on her own. Her husband was there and he poked her and said , "Well I still cant give her a full cup of coffee without her spilling it, but I think that's just because she wants me to run back and forth more waiting on her." He had a smile on his face and at first I was taken back because it just seemed rude but she just smiled and tried to punch him in the arm.

it did my heart good to see her and for all her troubles and all her issues, she huged me and with tears in her eyes told me i was an inspiration... the feeling i had in my chest at that moment i could have ridden around the world. She was truely a special woman so I get what you mean about having them cheer you up.

Great read and good for you!!!

It brought back memories of junior high school, which was 7th through 9th grades. There was a girl with MS in my class. She also happened to be the smartest kid in school (the class nerd) and wasn't very good looking (I'm being kind here).

I was popular, voted most athletic, etc., etc. Back then (1964), no one knew anything about MS and she was shunned. I got to know her because I loved to play chess and was the president of the chess club, she beat me regularly. I wasn't much of a student, so she helped me with my studies.

For whatever reason (I did have a history of putting bullies in their place), I took her to our prom. It was no big deal to me, but it was to her. At the time, it just seemed to be the right thing to do (no one else would have taken her). I look back now and feel kind of proud of myself, especially considering some of the things I had to do later in life.

So, kudos to you! It's amazing what average people can do if they're willing.
