Question Fish Oil Pills... Anyone take them?

By most accounts the health benefits of fish oil are positive. Does anyone on here pop these pills? Is one brand any better than the other and are there different types of fish oil and thus different types of pills or are they all pretty much the same?

I have, but I prefer to just catch and eat fish. I didn't notice any difference between eating the pills and not, so I stopped.

In retrospect I have some concern about how much healthyness the oil retains after having been pill'ed and set on a shelf for some months.

I was turned on to CardioTabs and haven't looked back. No after taste whatsoever.

GNCs Triple Strength fish oil. 900mg combined EPA/DHA per cap..can't beat it when looking for Omega-3. Theres also Krill oil, some people say Krill oil is better but Ive been taking fish oil so long I haven't thought to change.

I have blood work done every 6mo. The fish oil definitely helps to raise your HDL. My HDL was 39 before I started using fish oil and now after it's 78. I use a cheap off the shelf CVS brand. There is hype with evey product. This is better or that's better etc. If it raises your HDL to where you need it to be then it's good enough. Get your HDL checked before using it. You may not even need it.

http://www.strongerfasterhealthier.com/ I take the Liquid form. Easier than pills and the flavored test fine. You need quality with high amounts of EPA and DHA you will notice alot of pills have low amounts, so you would need to take alot of pills to get enough. The stuff I Link to has 2600mg in a tsp vs pills of 300-900.

Irish - had a few "caveman diet" recipes over the past few weeks and now have my wife convinced we've been cooking wrong all along! Good stuff.

I've wondered about that, too. There are differences in how the oil is extracted, the use of solvents, etc.

I take fish oil! A nutritionist told me some of the purest on the market is Natures Made brand. It is also very economical. If you have a problem burping up the fish taste simply put them in the fridge and it goes away.

Man that's some expensive shit. I think I can purchase slabs of raw tuna from the supermarket for what I would spend on that stuff! 10oz for $50!

Any hair in unusual places? What about man-boobs? I would have a real problem with growing man-boobs.

EPA and DHA, from fish and krill oil, are both 20 and 22-carbon long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. Krill oil is structurally integrated with phospholipid molecules, and typically consists of 30% EPA/DHA, and about 40% phospholipids mostly in the form of phosphatidylcholine. The EPA/DHA content in fish oil is mostly in triglyceride form. There are separate benefits to both.

So, fish oil is higher in EPA and DHA. Krill oil has the advantage of having astaxanthin (potent antioxidant), Vitamins A and D, and phospholipids.

And supposedly the krill O-3s might be more readily absorbed than those in fish oil and may be better at certain theraputic uses like cholesterol management. These are very highly debateable though.

My internal medicine physician had me to take the fish oil pills for several years. Never saw any improvement in my HDL. Didn't notice any change in my overall health when stopping. Maybe it works for some and not for others.
