Default MS Excel Question

I am trying to do some conditional formatting. I am putting together a spread sheet for tracking cost. I want to be able to put an "X" in at cell and make that highlight the entire row. I know how to make it highlight the cell, just can't figure out the whole row.

Do what your doing to format the cell.
But right click the row number first.

So you are not just conditionally formatting the row/column intersection, you are cond. formatting all the cells in the row.

Let us know if that doesn't work or make sense and we can email some examples back and forth.

Select the Cell you want to Highlight Under Conditional formating choose new rule, then select use Formurla to determine which cells to format. Use the formula to point to the cell you want x in. For example if you want A1 yellow based on B1 then the formula would be =$B$1="x". Then go to Manage rules and you can change the "Applies to" to capture the whole row.
