Default Big time anchor brake failure....great video...zip and off to Davy's Locker!

Anchor and chain....zip!
And no way would I have stood there filming this like the cameraman did...man..I would have been putting some distance between me and that chain!...lol

This was taken during a sea trial test of a newly built merchant vessel from Germany.

The other video is a USS Naval ship (USS Tarawa) loosing it's anchor.

That will scare the crap out of you if you are running the brake.

Nothing. I would guess that the brake failed. I was on anchor detail for 3 years, we came close to loosing anchor twice.

Best i can make out, they went 3 man tight on the brake. Most we ever needed was 2 on brake. The reason they knew to run was when the red shot showed up, in the navy the last shot is always red.

Awesome vid O.P.

It is attached to a padeye in the chain locker,
with that kind of momentum, it won't hold.

Oh man thats crazy. Reminds me somewhat of my first boating incident. I was about 10 years old and I was on my dad's first boat ever in his first year of ownership. Some kids loosened the anchorline one night and it broke loose at cruise scooting across the bay. Anchor slammed into the outboard which caused internal damage and cutting out the engine. Managed to get her going and limp back to the dock just to blow on our next trip out after some minor repairs.
