Default Awesome sight

Melting lead at my cousin's house today. He lives on a narrow peninsula surrounded by a big marsh/preserve that is like an Audubon paradise for birds/waterfowl. We were watching an osprey carrying a nice fish he had caught when all of a sudden a bald eagle takes after him. It looked like a WWII dogfight. In no time the eagle had the fish and the osprey was chasing him. Ospreys are big, and that eagle made him look small. My cousin says their is a nesting pair of eagles there. COOL! Don't often see stuff like that in Connecticut.

Its a great feeling to watch nature apart from TV. Wednesday I was at the Dentist looking at the stream out his window and a Great Blue heron grabbed a trout out of the stream maybe 8 to 10 inches long, held it sideways in his beak , waited, tossed it about 45 degrees, waited tossed it another 45 degrees then gulp! You could see it go down his throat slowly..... here is another good one

I'm sooooooo glad those birds don't get to around 400lbs.

Death from Above.

What an awesome sight they make when hunting! There are a couple of osprey nesting I can see out the back door. They are very cool. There is a red tailed hawk that sits on my flag pole almost daily. He is really good at keeping the squirrels honest. They (both types of hawks) seem to get along fine. But when the eagle comes by (about once a week) they all get scarce. The eagle is huge in comparison. Very cool to watch. I would love to see an aerial battle like you saw but no luck yet.

my favorite eagle/osprey story involves Al Gore. They had some kind of dog and pony show for Al here in MD when he was VP. The raptor hospital at Patuxent had nursed an Eagle back to health and as part of Internet Al's visit, they were going to release it back to the wild.

Hundreds of people, many cameras rolling and Al cuts the eagle loose.....low and behold, screaming from above, an osprey with no love for that eagle in it's hood.....dives on it and smashes it into the river. The handlers run out to pick the eagle off the river...back to the hospital.

Al and the crowd was aghast. Don't F with mother nature.

Two Bald Eagles fighting at Myakka State Park in Florida. We watched it go on for about a half hour. Truly amazing. One was stuck on the ground and the other was "dive bombing". The one on the ground would flip over backwards with talons in the air when the other flew over.
