I believe it. I was caught offshore, off of the Texas coast when I got caught in a hailstorm. It piled so high on deck I was concerned it would sink the boat. Not to mention my face and hands were being pelted by bits the size of gravel going over 60 mph.

I got caught in a hail storm a long time ago. Started with small hail that became baseball size.

I was driving a company truck and was lucky to get under a bridge before the large hail started falling. I heard the next day some guy was caught in his new car in the open. He spreadeagled on the hood to protect it and got a concussion! There were a lot of new cars for sale after that storm with golf ball and baseball sized dents. Dealers collected insurance and then dropped the price to get rid of the cars.
