Default Sun pass to drive in friggin Miami?

Planning on going to the keys tomorrow and was gonna take Ronald Reagan/821. Online says ya gotta have a dam Sunpass. Is this true? What about towing a trailer?

You definitely want a sun pass even if it's not required, it'll work out the billing for trailer later. No slowing down for tolls just blast through at 75. It will easily shave 10 mins off your drive compared to regular tolls.

Get yourself to publix ASAP, the units (I think) can be registered overnight.

Toll by plate no sun pass neccesary. You pay a higher toll without a sunpass, though.

I assume you're in Stuart, why not take the Turnpike all the way down? It can get sketch on 95 w/ a trailer and the excitement goes up exponentially buy county. Palm Beach < Broward < Dade.

No shame in getting a SunPass. I don't know what took me so long ;?

All I want to do is lock my doors and get through the Broward/Dade hellholes. I don't use tollroads enough to justify Sunpass, and it is absolutely ludicrous that a high tourist area would prohibit the use of a major thoroughfare without some electronic gadget.

Sad to see the deterioration of this once great area of our state.

Thanks for the replies.

Just an FYI - You know you can just drive right thru the toll - they will send you a bill in the mail....

Its a bit more expensive - but you dont have to get a sunpass....

Get the Sunpass....the discount alone makes it worth it. I hauled the boat back from Lauderdale last week...$30 in cash or toll by plate ended up being $24 with the Sunpass.

It's $5 at Publix. Get it and use the turnpike and you wont have to worry about all the other crap.

Bill, Even though it takes 24 hours to "activate" they will see your license plate and charge it against the Sunpass account. If you do go through Miami the sunpass is still worth it since you can use the Express lanes on 95 (just after Ives Dairy) and it will save you a ton of time.

Just a thought, enjoy the trip.

I usually take 95/Turnpike to Sawgrass. Longer but much safer and easier. I'd hate to have a problem with the trailer on 95 in Dade..boat would be stripped in minutes.

Thanks!
