Default Anyone Familiar with Scag Zero Turn Mowers

I have a Scag Turf Tiger. I noticed last week that the reverse on the left side was getting very weak. So I brought it to the dealer and he pressure tested the hydro pumps. Both need to be replaced. My total bill is going to be over $1900 to replace two pumps and three belts. I was wondering if anyone has had their hydro pumps rebuilt? Or should I just get the new ones so I do not have any more issues. I dont use it commercially just my yard. TIA

welp...

as you know, the hydraulic system on a ZTR is basically all the mower is
it is surprising that with residential use that yours have failed, but i guess everything does at some point

i had a turf tiger with almost 2000 hrs that never had that problem, till it got stolen
my new one is just getting broken in (thanks state farm!)

If you do it yourself you can save big bucks. I have done a couple for friends. Search on line and get exact replacement. Different pumps have different flow rates and fitting locations. Different RPM pressures etc. I would only replace the one that is a problem. Just don't wait till it explodes inside.

My father has one that he uses on the tree farm. He only had one leak since he bought it several years ago. It turned out to be a bad fitting on a hydraulic hose and they replaced it under warrenty. I think he has about 600 hours on it.

Default Scag Mower

Brother, I had a Freedom Z mower from Scag. Bought in 2009 with a 23 Briggs Motor. The 23 Briggs was 400 bucks less than the 19 Kawasaki.....no brainer for me as 4 more HP for 400 bucks less is a deal in my neck of the woods. Well, in 2012, my Scag is running rough as I put it, and the dealer checks it out. So it seems, I have a blown motor and it is out of warranty. So, since I am a " good customer", they offer me 3K for the mower as is as a trade in on a mower of my choice. I choose the Walker Bee...18 HP Kohler with a 48 side discharge deck. Brother, I can tell you this is a superior mower to the Scag....lawn looks perfect and striping is immaculate. Go your own way but Walker is the heat.

Well. I ended up just telling them to fix it. They said that the wheel motors were good just the pumps. That $1900 also includes them changing all the belts on the mower. I was thinking of trading and getting another but my mower only has 480 hours. I cant complain about the Scag. It has been a great mower.

X100 on the Walker Mower. Those that don't know can never understand the bullet proof quality they put in those things and the cut is unmatched. I had one with the bagger system and have had several.

I would put up my exmark on your walker any day. As to all of the above and then having the highest blade speed in the industry!
