Default wild tuna

I must say I was looking forward to watching some big blue fin being caught,as well as the method used up north, not being a prude or anything but I was disgusted at the use of the lord s name used so much in vane without censorship and cant say Ill watch next week what a dissappointment

I said the same thing last week after episode #1. I can't believe NatGeo lets those words fly. I expressed my opinion last week on how bad the show sucked. I was channel surfing last night, and saw that episode 2 was on. I caught the last twenty minutes of the show, and heard 'Goddamn' three times. Maybe they realise that the show is so bad, that they're trying to attract people with the vulgarity?

I watched it last night for the first time. I did not care for the show at all. I have never seen so much whinning and complaining from recereational boats to draggers to other commercial fishing geeesh enough already just shut up and fish. While admit they appear to be fishing in some tight quarters but deal with it they don't own the ocean and the rec fisherman has just as much right to catch a bluefin as a commerical guy does.

The language and the fish are probaly the only real things on the show. At least Discovery has the decency to carefully censor with "radio static" and "ring tones", to the point that you almost dont hear the edit.

The allowing of the language is a grasp at trying to keep folks watching.

The fact that the word "goddamn" irritated someone makes me chuckle...lighten up people. But then again I'm not that religious so maybe I'm just being an ignorant asshole. Haha

As with anything that makes you wonder, you have to ask why. I think it is safe to assume Nat geo as a whole is conservation minded organization and I would also assume anti-commercial fishing generally speaking.
So it is good for them to display the comm. fisherman as some sort of tooth missing', uneducated pirate who can't even get along with his peers, while making a few bucks from the show. Win-win.

I like watching the boats. The story line about being pissed at the tuna.com because he is successful is stupid. The language doesn't bother me.

Basically, If it has a boat or fish in it I'll watch it. Natgeo and the Discovery channel stole my soul...
Oh well.

I don't get getting angry with someone that is offended by anything? Your allowed to be offended by anything. Your choice.

As far as the tuna fishing goes, I have a technical question. these guys seem to anchor and drop their lines? Is this correct?

if so, do they pull anchor when they hook up? Something was not making sense to me as they hooked up, but they were so bent on showing me drama, that they didn't show me the fishing part?

Other than that, it was fishing..just like the rest of us. Lots of lying on the radio.

I was not offended one bit by the language, just surprised that natGeo decided to air it.

If you watch the show, commercial BFT fishing looks like an amazingly simple and profitable venture in Mass.
All you need is a 35-38' downeast boat, crew of two, some bait, fuel and ice, and for each of the roughly 200 days of the season you need average just one $3,000-10,000 fish in the boat a day. That should generate $1.3 million in gross revenue, minus about $150,000 for expenses (suggestion on show is $500 day for consumables and $50k for yearly maintenance and upgrades) and $150,000 for the mate (they don't look to hard or expensive to get), netting the owner about $1 million/yr.

I'd love to hear some realistic numbers like out of 200 days how many days are lost to weather or maintenance issues and just how often they actually catch fish, I think in the first episode the Hard Merchandise mentioned something like over the years he had caught like 300 fish, I am assuming that is over quite a few years. It is probably a feast and famine ordeal and you need to catch a lot when you can. That being said, I am enjoying the show myself.
