A friend of mine lives in that apartment complex, hes ok, but he said it was loud as shit and there is black smoke everywhere! A witness said he saw the pilots eject but thats not confirmed yet, no reported injuries yet. Hopefully no one was killed.

The plane crashed about 2 blocks north of I 264 off Birdneck Rd. The State Police has shut down the interstate.

Hope no one on the ground was hurt which is always foremost in your mind when you choose to eject.

They were so close to the beach, like 4 blocks or less, I wonder if they were tying to make it to the beach to ditch but couldnt make it.

The pilots are safe and have been taken to a local hospital, still no reported injuries on the ground. The fires out.

I was moving my boat through broad bay and heard a boom, looked across toward Laskin Rd and saw tons of black smoke rising. The 18 Pilot certainly tried to get it away from the buildings, but if you see the departure runway from Oceana, they didn't get very much altitude after takeoff. Notheast wind today is pretty strong so they would have been using the N/S runway. Only 1/2 mile from a super congested area at 31st street.

I tip my hat to the military pilots who have to fly in a training environment in this congested area. You can read the serial numbers on the landing gear from my house as they fly over daily. Father in law is a retired A-6 driver here, glad the pilot and crew ejected safely. Now starts the ground search of 5 buildings and 40 apartments, it will be a blessing if no one was home at these apartments.

Amazing that no injuries have been confirmed at this point. Everyone is incredibly lucky.
Sounds like they had a flame out just after take-off and didn't really have time to do anything but pull the eject handles. They actually landed very close to the debris field, which means they ejected right before impact. Witnesses have said the pilot was apologizing over and over for hitting the apartments. I'm sure has been sick with worry wondering if anyone was inside.

Hats off for a job well done.

Live news stream here - http://www.wtkr.com/news/livestreams/

7 injured (not counting the pilots), w/ 3 of those refusing medical attention. No fatalities announced at this time. Sounds like it could've been a lot worse.

Some people still UN accounted for as of now(not saying they are dead they just cant find them) . Many of you don't know because you are not in this area but this has been a HUGE HUGE conflict around here for a long time. There is Fentress Airfield about 20 miles that is in the middle of no where that for some reason they don't use hardly ever. They have been saying for a long time how bad it would be if one of those planes ever crashed... and now its looking like it may have taken a few lives. The jets fly so low here(over my house) you can see the pilot if he waved to you(not a figure of speech here). They fly all hrs of the night and everything. The jets are so loud that it will set off car alarms. Now that being said...the jets were here first and it wouldn't be so bad if they took off from Oceana went out somewhere else and did their thing and then landed back there to put them back in the hangers...but that's not what happens. They do touch and goes over a populated area ALL day and night sometimes. If they had been doing this at Fentress Airfield (owned by the gov.) the chances of this plane falling into anything besides a swamp or field are slim to NONE. Its very sad because the kids are out for spring break this week and hanging at home. It crashed not even a mile form a school. This could have been WAY worse.

The plane in question was NOT doing carrier landing practice today.

Fentress is temporarily closed for repairs.

Oceana was out in the middle of nowhere when it was built.

Local News Update.

No one has been reported missing.

There are three people from the apartment manager's list that have officials have not talked to.

Yeah that's what I hear. But my point with the touch and goes is that ....if shit is going to hit the fan...it will happen then. Take off and landings are the most dangerous time flying and when you do it multiple times your chances increase by a ton. And what is their falt is they did not account for the growing area. they did not purchase enough land to account for those "danger zones". IMO they should move to fentress and don't let that area populate. I mean its mostly swamp and farmland over there anyway. It would not hurt the local economy for them to move over there. I mean hell bring in another branch of the military in there when they move out. I know at one time they talked about making it a tank training place for the army. That would be win win for this area.

I'm confused...?...you talking to me...?.. where do you read where I'm complaining? I never said one bad thing about the noise or that I had a problem with it. But trust me than I say there is plenty around here that have that attitude.

In the history of Oceana there has been ONE civilian fatality due to an aircraft crash.

You are far more likely to die on the roads of Hampton Roads than you are from an Oceana Jet crash.
