SC high schools to make bass fishing varsity sport...

High schools in South Carolina are bidding to make fishing an official high school sport, with teams, leagues and varsity letters. And with pro tournaments and television shows about fishing making it more popular than ever, some say it’s time for schools to recognize the activity as a full-fledged sport.

Sounds cool.

But can they drink? That's pretty cool but some assclown will probably ruin the chances though.

Great move, show me a kid that's fishing and I'll show you a kid that's not out stealing or doing drugs.......

I would say that the biggest hurdle to overcome for high school bass fishing, would be high school bass boat drivers.

We sponsor a 16 yr/old kid in NC named Carson Orellana. He is the NC Junior Champion. I think its a great to get High Schools involved. Wonder what they will do about boats?

If you see Carson buzzing around in his BOE wrapped boat in the SE say Hi! He might have a coupon for you.

To solve the boat problem just have them fish from the banks or possibly boats donated for use not the whole boat just for tournaments and things like that. I know they have college level teams, it would be very interesting to see high schools start to get into the mix.

A lot of the schools are pretty into the fishing scene, I know CCU (Coastal Carolina) has fishing club(s), freshwater and offshore. Not sure if its all one club with different branches or what. They've won some bass fishing events on the FLW college series, fished the SKA finals, definitely a lot of activity from the kids at CCU, good to see it trickling down to high schools in the area, hopefully they can fish their way into some scholarships.

Bass fishing has also made inroads at the collegiate level:

Get paid to fish and everything but the beer is paid for sounds like a good gig. I might consider a teacher's sallary for that.
