Just asking why a microwave always open to the left and are there any out there that have hinges on the right?

Because most people are right handed and the left handed people adapt to the right handed world. Thus, the keyboard is on the right.

If you really need a left side open (hinged on the right), do microwaves work upside down?

You have to buy one in the Southern Hemisphere to have a right handed Microwave.

All great responses. Funny, thanks.

Only asking because my parents had a kitchen built for them years ago and the micro is in an odd spot (poor design layout) and now that they are getting older (shorter) it's hard for my mom to reach these days and the micro opening would be a lot better if it opened the other way. Can't find much (anything) out there.

Just hoping someone found the odd manufacturer out there that made them.

Thanks again,

J

They do make them. Here is one, there are a few others also. http://www.sears.com/kenmore-elite-3...p-02288523000P

you could also go with a door that opens down. That would not help though as it would make the reach even more for shorter folks.

Thanks for this. I never saw Dual swing door options. (Like you mentioned too Bumster.)

My hunt is back on and my mom will be so happy if I find her one.

Thank you again all.
