Default Caneel Bay?? honeymoon

So as some of you may know, I have been looking for a while for a honeymoon location. I have looked at what feels like hundreds of places, islands etc in the caribbean. I was recently referred to Caneel Bay, Rosewood Resort, St John by a very close family friend.

Does anyone have any experience with this resort? Pros/Cons, etc?

Thank you!

Caneel Bay is a top of the line resort, never been to it myself, but have passed by it many, many times. It looks great and has a good rep. Check Tripadvisor for some feedback, but I think it would be a good bet, and St. John is great.

It's fantastic. We rent a villa on st. John for a month every year, in march April. You should look at that route too

Thanks for all the replies! I ahve been soing a lot of research, and never having been to St John myself, it seems like a beutiful place!

Most important question..I was looking for area activities, etc. Does anyone know where I could maybe rent a boat for a day or charter a private boat for fishing and relaxing for the little lady?

THANKS as always!

There is a place just to the west of the town docks that rents boats. If I recall they rent 25' or so Makos.

There are lots of cool trails for hiking around St. John. I think the whole island is a national park.

There are neat bars and restaurants tucked around the whole island.

Caneel Bay has a pretty good watersports area so you can windsurf, snorkel, take out a Hobie, etc. Beach stuff.

Then you have day trips to places like Jost Van Dyke, and other popular destinations within the BVI.

Caneel Bay is a fabulous place (been there twice). Only other place to consider in the USVI is the Buccaneer on St. Croix. As nice as Caneel Bay is, the Buccaneer has become our favorite place to stay (we call it the place where they never say "no").

The Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas is pretty awesome! We rent a villa on St. Thomas called Hawk Hill Hideway. It's awesome and inexpensive. Better than just about any hotel I have ever stayed in. It's got a private pool and great view. During the day we would get in our car and go hang out at the beautiful beaches. If you can afford to charter a boat with the money you save head over the the BVI's for the day. Go to the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Eat at Pussers on Marina Cay, and don't miss Foxy's Beach Bar on Jost Van Dyke.

Thanks to all who replied to my thread!!

We have decided to book the honeymoon at Caneel and we are going down in July!

We are coming from the NE so the next step is to book the flights. Does anyone recommend any sites to book at or should we just check out all airlines?

Any help as always is much appreciated!~

I took a girlfriend there about 10 years ago. It was really nice.

I ended up marrying her a couple years later.

One thing you may want to consider is dividing your time between the two resorts - the sister resort, Little Dix on Virgin Gorda, is gorgeous. Smaller than CB, but the beach is arguably nicer than the ones at Caneel Bay and the rooms are a little better. Both are Rosewood - and a short boat ride apart (the resort has their own water taxis).

Have fun.

RedSoxMan- Thanks for the reply! I actually was deciding whether to go to Little Dix bay or caneel..its not too late to change!

Are there activities to do at LDB? Boat charter, good restaurants, etc?

If you had to choose where to stay where would you stay?

Thanks!!

I was surprised, but I liked Little Dix a bit better. It's smaller, but I liked everything more. The beach is SICK there and they have tons of activities. Fewer restaurants, though... Again, a perfect thing would be to do them both, if you can. Just divide your days in half. You can take the hotel's water taxi over (and they'll bring your bags).
