Default IPAD1 Battery Issues??

We got an IPAD 1 Christmas 2011. It doesn't seem to be taking a full charge here recently. Only goes up to say 85% and now today we charged it 12 hours and it's only at 57%.
Anyone experiencing any charging issues?
What does it cost for a new battery?

Call an apple store. If you walk in to one and get the right person you may get it replaced for free.
iPad1 is the oldest model. How did you get that last Christmas. I didn't think they were available new anymore

What bumster said. I believe for $99 you just send it to apple and get a different one back with a new battery.

You are talking about a product that is only 2-1/2 months old? I suspect Apple will replace the battery for free. Apple is pretty good about stuff like that. As was already mentioned, take it to an Apple store, if you can.

Could also be a simple power cube replacement. Have any other apple chargers that you can try?

Have you drained the battery to 1% or 2% and then recharged?

Are you charging via the wall cube or the USB port on your computer? USB port may not charge completely.
See here.

Ooops, Christmas 2010, not 2011. Its a few months over a year old. We use the wall charger that came with it. We have tried a different wall charger we have for my daughter's iptouch and same result..I did some more research online. Think we will take it in to the apple store and see what happens. I suspect we need a new battery...Does draining the battery to zilch wreck it?
Thanks for the replies.

Have you hard reset it? that may reset the PMU.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
