Default I need help from you guys. I need to know what you think would be a great..

..birthday gift for a 40 year old fellow. I really do need help with this one. I don't want to give out info on hobbies or stuff like that because that would lead to predictable gifts. I'm looking for a gift that he'll never see coming and I'm willing to entertain all ideas to acheive that goal. Thanks in advance.

^^^^or the sand bar.

Not knowing you or your husband and your budget, it is hard to say.

If your going to do a trip here is an idea:

Hunting/fishing trip to the patagonia...either Argentina or Chile. I like Chile better myself and the Carmenere wines are much better than the Malbecs. You could also do both, a trip to Puerto Montt (Chile) area and fly back from Santiago to BA. You could spend some time in BA and head back. I sent a consultant down to Chile this year and he and his wife stayed at a little bed and breakfast out in the country and they really really liked it.

My thoughts exactly. But I will try to think "out of the box" if you will...

Seriously here are a few things that I always appreciate but everying depends on the price range, The trip thing is fine if you have the bucks and he likes to travel by plane - I hate it only you now. Excludig his hobbies makes it very tough...

#1 I would rather have time with my kids than anything else. Maybe just time alone doing something he likes even if its nothing with you if you don't have kids?

#2 Browse Cabelas and Lowes/Home Depot websites to get ideas

#3 A dinner (and evening entertainment) at the type of restaurant HE likes even if it is a bar and mud wrestling

and #3 I can think of nothing else not knowing his interests - this site is full of outdoors fisher hunting gun types and to exclude those things it is really hard to come up with anyhting more creative for a guy. But it is creative cooking might for my wife (long story) which means Beck's night for me so I will surely think of more soon.....

Be sure to let us know what of the final outcome! We are always looking for creative feedback to make your THT experience more rewarding...

PS if he is a member here give us a hint

For my 40th, my wife took me for a ride on a glider, I did not know what we were doing. On the way there (Zephyrhills FL, known skydiving site) a plane passed over the road and I thought skydiving was what we were doing. Wasn't sure I was up for that.

The glider ride was awesome, scared the crap out of both of us.

Some good ideas so far.
* The Glider ride sounds like fun. Nothing like having the snit scared out of you for real.
* A cruise is something I hadn't considered.
* Browsing the Cabelas website for ideas hadn't crossed my mind
* The references to being 'naughty' are bad ideas. That has to happen far more frequently than birthdays
* Someone suggested a hunting/fishing trip. A chartered fishing trip is definately an option.

Keep them coming as this looks promising. Thanks.

If you want to keep it closer and more affordable, you can fly down to several areas in Mexico fairly inexpensively and have a real nice time fishing but also hanging out on a beach and having nice dinners. Ixtapa, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, etc. I had an issue in Puerto Vallarta last time I was there and will scratch that one off the list until things improve.

Wendy, for my wifes 60th I got her a gift card that gave 3 choices. It was for both of us to do. I told her what ever she picked we would both do it.

1. Glider ride.
2. Hot air balloon ride.
3. Sky diving.

I thought sure she would pick #1 or #2. Guess what, it took all of 2 seconds to pick #3. I thought what the hell did I do. No date yet but I'm trying to get my self acclimated by watching the "Scariest Video" thread here on THT.

If we go we'll be on the fishing excursion. We aren't golfers.

I haven't given that much thought at all. Most times for me when it comes to chosing between different things to buy, the value of the purchase outweighs the actual purchase price. I am not independantly wealthy or anything like that though.

Chalk another one up for the greatest gift ever.....scaring the snit out of your loved one and yourself simulateously.

I don't pass judgement on those that do so more power to you, but I do not hunt anything that I won't eat.....unless its for revenge. I like the guided fishing trip ideas.
