Default American Pickers

Anyone saw the show last night? I now am certain the whole thing is BS, they were in Pensacola and happened to walk into a seafood restaurant next to a small marina. After coincidently talking to two ladies they went to the owners of the place (3 brothers). There was a room upstairs with all kinds of stuff they were interested in. Suddenly the one picker pulls out a box with 5 Penn international II 80s. He offers the guy $1000 and the brother says 1250, after som bs -ing I think he actually bought them for 1000. Now I know the market is bad but really, These reels were from the one brothers boat, the guy used them for marlin fishing and he would give them away for $ 200 a piece?

Not that it should matter, but I think that he may play for the other team, as well.

When you see the profit in the items they pick, I am often left wondering how they even cover their fuel expense.

you don't suppose that this reality show is an inaccurate portrayal of their actual business model do you?

My sense is that the "estimates" of what they can resell these items for is wildly inflated from what they will actually be able to get.

They don't make a dime until the item is actually sold, then it's got to be split 3 ways and pay for the main office/shop.

They have to move a lot of stuff on a continual basis to do that.

Guess I am opposite. I think Frank's the cool one and Mike gets on my nerves. His laugh just makes me cringe.

Enjoy watching either way. Can we get Danny D on a boat? NaplesImage could work on that.

1st, that episode is a rerun!

2nd, why are Y'all interested in Frank and Mike?

Do a little research and you'll find out all kinds of interesting stuff..........

"Danielle is the feisty manager of their antique shop “Antique Archaeology“, and also gives Mike and Frank tips on where to find these places while they’re on the road.
Gallery and more info after the jump….

What Danielle does on the side is the interesting part. She’s the owner, and director of Burlesque Le’ Moustache (a traveling burlesque show), and also a performer under the stage name Danny Diesel! That’s right, you can see a lot more of Danielle from American Pickers at her burlesque show, if you’re a fan of hers, which seems to be quite a few people.
The interesting part of Danielle is not the burlesque performance, or roller derby girl, or the tattoos, it’s that she was hired to run the antique shop only after the History Channel picked up the show American Pickers. Why is that more interesting? I don’t know, when you watch these reality shows, you think it all just kind of flows together, but you never really think that they hand picked Danielle because of her edgy attitude and look to try and spice up antiques a bit. It works though, she adds to the show well, and they did a good job putting it together."

I quit watching when they started giving that annoying, tattooed freak so much air time.

I think she's pretty cool but I'm not into the tats for the wife, daughter or girlfriend but a one nighter sure what the hell. She looks very healthy in the photos of that burlesque business of hers as well.

I'm definitely not a tat fan, but I do like her.

As far as the show is concerned, I like it in spite of Frank and Mike. They only mildly annoy me at times. Sometimes their knowledge is spot on and interesting and sometimes there's a little fantasy involved. I enjoy seeing the different parts of the country, the stuff and the characters they run into.

It's a TV show and a lot of it is staged. I recognize and except that fact.

I watch it. It's entertaining. I like how they lowball the hell out of people, haggling for a few bucks on an item, then at the end of the show they each give their rundowns of their buys.

Frank: I got this headlight for a 1806 Harley Panhead for $2.00. I know I can find a buyer for $1500

During the show, the guy that owned it wanted $50 for it, but Frank convinced the guy that since it had a bit of rust, it wasn't worth what he was asking.

I realize it's scripted. Pawn Stars is the most scripted show in history. This is one example:

Talking about scripted? How about Storage Wars? I actually saw one episode where Dave won a locker and Barry went back to see "his" locker.
