You can do this yourself without too much trouble. First off, you need to register a domain name (and pay for it each year). Yahoo small business is one place you can get a domain and web hosting for a reasonable price. Then you can make a simple web page with web page design software like iWeb on the Mac.

More complex web pages take more time and technical expertise. E-commerce web pages take quite a bit of effort.

You can immediately post up a single page website with your contact information for the same price. If your website is more complex they can host it for you or you can get a third party to host it.

For the Mac, Freeway Express ($69) is also a pretty good app, and is more sophisticated than iWeb.

Ditto.

When you register your website I suggest going ahead throwing out the extra bucks for the proxy registration if you are doing a home business. All of the information you provide to register the dot-com is public and very very easy to view by anyone on the internet. A proxy a 3rd party between you and your domain, so their shows up as owner, not you. This keep all of your personal information off the internet. If your business has its own address and stuff like that you don't need the proxy, just register the dot-com to the business.

How to do that and create a free splash page (sounds like that is what you want) is all at Go Daddy.

I own a web hosting company. I have one awesome employee, me, customer service is personal and amazing. Happy to help make sure you get setup correctly with something easy to manage. I've been doing it since '99 by the way.

Do it all on godaddy... Easy and cheap, just be careful what you sign up for.

I'm a geek by trade but I don't moonlight anymore because time is just too damn important to me.

But if you want a "sounding board" to make sure nobody is raking you over the coals just PM me.

I had one with go daddy, they appear cheap initially. They then nickel and dime you for everything. Also not very simple to do anything other than VERY basic site.
