Default Man Arrested for Firing Warning Shot Into Ground

This is unbelievable. For you folks from New Hamster, is this the general climate there or is this just an isolated incident?

A New Hampshire man who fired his handgun into the ground to scare an alleged burglar he caught crawling out of a neighbor's window is now facing a felony charge -- and the same potential prison sentence as the man he stopped.

In MS he'd be arrested for not shooting the burglar.

Looks like he'll learn a lesson the hard way and the burglar gets another chance. Advise to burglar, stay up there don't move south.

in florida we have the stand your ground statute. It states that if anyone comes at you intending to do yoy great bodily harm or kill you, you may defend your self. It also states that you can be in your home, your car or any place you have a legal right to be.http://www.cfif.org/htdocs/freedomli...efense-law.htm Check it out. It seems that our state legislatures have a lot more sense than yours in New England

When you fill the ground with lead and you threaten to have the ground tested for hazardist waste material.

I dont live far from where this happened. Farmington is a shithole trailer trash town. There's a big problem with meth and heroin up there. He should of done us a favor and shot the intruder. I'll be surprised if charges are pursued.

Southern NH is a pit, at least MA has services like hospitals, police and fire departments.
Southern NH is full of people from MA complaining they do not have all the services they had when they lived in MA.
Live free or die lol...

Not sure what to think on this one.... I personally dont think he should be charged - but why not tell the perp to stop and not fire the weapon unless he is in danger .... Discharging a firearm is serious...

Hope he gets off....

A cheap response to "I missed". Problem is the guy went hunting for the dirt ball and that will get him into the shit with the law.

As a 30 year Mass gun owner you don't fire warning shots and I will not shoot to leave you limping with a blood trail like a wounded animal.

While true, it doesn't appear to be relevant to the story.

Discharging your firearm to "scare" someone is going to be a problem here too.

Sucks because it sounds like he did everyone a favor.

I guess the "reckless conduct" came from discharging a firearm in a residential (possibly?) area kind of "law" or similar?

What if there was pavement/concrete or a boulder directly under where the gun went off - could have ricocheted into someone's home, etc.? ;? (Just playing devils advocate here - like the police might).

I AGREE he did the right thing - at least he kept the perp at bay and the police made the arrest! NOTHING would piss me off more than if the perp had gotten away beFORE the cops got there, due to an inability to keep the guy on the ground!

Hope they drop the charges!

Regards,

It's a sad day when you really think that's funny.
