Default Cable tv

Recently relocated to another rental house, went to get local cable
from local cable office and was denied.
Previous tenant vacated the residence owing the cable provider I
went to an outstanding bill.
Cable provider will not hook me up unless I pay previous tenants bill
or proove I was not living their at the time they were.
First I brought them my last five years of Federal Tax returns with my
previous address on them but that's not good enough.
At their (cable provider) request I brought to their office a letter from
the owner/land lord of the property stating I nor they were aware of the
previous tenants debt and that I should not be denied service because
of their outstanding bill.

Norfolk,Va........Is this legal to hold an address resposible?
P.S. Been a long time since posting here, read a lot but old login didn't work.
Finally re-registered tonight...........It's Rude,where is everyone?

Most cable companies have contracts with the local government allowing them to provide service to residents. Go to the agency or people that oversee's the contract.

I like cox better than sat. I just think its a rip off, cox does have good customer service, and good internet. I dont have any real problems with them, I just bitch that its twice as much as my next highest monthly bill.

Verbal lease, brought them (Cox) a letter from the land lord verifying I did not live
there or had previous knowledge of their debt, not good enough...........this
after bringing the past six years of Federal Tax returns to them.
I guess they have more Power Than The FED Gov. as they don't recognize
the returns to my old address as proof.
