Default Pool Cover

OK temporarily covered the pool early this year to keep the leaves out and then sorta forgot and never did reopen or put in a pillow - and the tarp looks totally floating for the first time. What is the pillow for ??? I see lots of people never even cover and they seem to get so damage...? Thats the new 16 by 12 shed in the background I haven't finished the gray trim yet. No excuses weather has been balmy.

I think the pillow is to help support the center of the cover mor than enything else. I don't even cover my pool anymore but I only close it after the leaves are all gone in early december

Not really sure, but up north my dad always put an inner tube or some inflated ball or something under the center. Does it have anything to do with freezing? Maybe it is easier to open up and get the dirty water siphoned off? Not sure, but there must be a reason.

Are those poplar trees in the pic?

Before you put the tarp on did you drop the water level any Bob? If so, and now the tarp is floating up at the top of the pool then I'd say one of two things has happened. One, the black tarp has a hole in it and the rain water is entering your pool, or somehow when it rains out the black tarp is partially lifting and the rain is directly going into the pool.

Either way with this warm weather you should get some of that water out of it and get something in there to relieve the pressures of ice freezing. Eg: plastic jugs, inner tube, pillow thing whatever that is.

Water level in the pool looks to high. Pillow makes it easier to manage water and debris that accumulates on top of the cover. Also prevents a solid block of ice on top of the cover which could buckle the walls outward.

I was told by the guy that put in my pool that it was for presure relief when the water froze. Since he was a total stoner take it for what it is worth.
