That prob differs from state to state, and if the light is passenger specific or one that illuminates the whole compartment.

Dome light destroys night vision, just like lights inside your boat.

Probably illegal, and probably something very few LEOs would bother you about.

I gotta ask the reason for the question. Got to be a lot more interesting than any of our responses!

OK, OK. My little one (2 yrs old now) tends to throw things on the floor of the backseat on long drives. It started out as a mistake but quickly turned into a "Look what I can make daddy do" game.

I don't mind playing along but every time (at night) my wife or I have to find the switch and turn on the light than turn it back off again, repeat, repeat, repeat...So my wife said "Why not just leave the light on?" I've always thought it was against the law to drive with the inside light on for more than a minute or 2.

By the way it's the front passenger that goes looking for the toys on the floor not the driver. She does it when we're alone she has to do without.

Daddy don't play that.

Sounds like a two year old is running the show and making a dangerous situation. Stop the game. Tell him the game is over. Leave the stuff on the floor till the ride is done, then put it out of sight. Tough love, Yes. The older he gets the harder it gets to get him under control.

Have to refer to state to state, but no it is not illegal in Florida.

You just can't obstruct your view with objects, posters, signs, stuffed animals,......

I remember the days when I was told it was illegal to drive barefooted.

Not sure about the light but I do know that other than a navigation devices you better not have a screen "tv, dvd player, video game" in plane view of the driver. Big no no and will get you a ticket.
