Default Quality Wireless Meat Thermometers

Can anyone recommend a high quality wireless meat thermometer? We smoke pork or beef on the smoker almost every weekend. I finally bought a wireless thermometer at Lowes but it is kind of cheap and I don't quit like it. Are there any closer to professional grade that you use?

I am not aware of any professional wireless thermometers. The pro stuff I am aware of are all handheld monitors with a probes. You can do the same thing with some Fluke meters.

These are the folks that sell the infamous Thermapen. They also have pro thermometers (NOT CHEAP!) for use in food processing and restaurants.

Try the Maverick ET732 wireless with a pit probe and meat probe. Has some nice features. I use mine almost every weekend. I use it and a BBQ guru temp controller, they both sync out well.

I just bought this for my non-green egg smoker. I have used it twice and it worked perfectly. I drilled a small hole in the smoker to handle the grill temp probe and I put the meat prob directly into the meat.

I think that's the way to do, drill a hole and use a probed thermometer. Not sure the Maverick line is "professional" quality, but also don't think you need a $300-$400 probed thermometer from a pro kitchen to smoke some butt, either.

Fwiw, there is another Maverick wireless intended for smokers, the FT-73, as opposed to the FT-7 suggested in the post above. No idea of the differences between the two models.

Whatever brand you buy...make sure you wrap whatever portion of the sending cable that will be in the grill exposed to the heat with foil otherwise after a few cooks you'll get the dreaded "HHH" reading instead of temp...GL
