Cool... That's a big wing span for that deck and I wouldn't have ever thought that enough takeoff speed could have been achieved.

Wow, unassisted takeoffs and unarrested landings. Never knew the 130 was carrier capable.

I was watching thinking...

"yeah but it was probably empty" ... nope
"yeah but the 130 and the carrier were heavily modded" .....nope
"yeah but they were test pilots using special techniques"....nope

That was a badass vid. Good find and thanks for sharing!

Me neither - was looking for the ole' JATO's to kick in, but didn't see any?

A true WORK HORSE of the AF (and CG, too?) - been around FOREVER!

Thanks for the vid!

At 4:15- 4:30, they said they cut the engines at 4' off the deck so by the time they were on deck the propellers could be in reverse.
Please enlighten us on how the props can go from forward to stop to full reverse in that short of a time period?
I missed something somewhere. Maybe I misunderstood what he said.

It is very cool to land that monster there.

I loaded the JATO (those jet bottles on the side) on Fat Albert and they let us take a ride during the show.... Zero gravity when they level off.... Cool stuff....

The props don't reverse. The pitch changes to reverse thrust. They still spin the same direction.

So the blade rotates. That makes sense.
Sorry for such an elementary question.
Thank you

This film had to be from the 60's, early 70's based on the F4 Phantoms, an awesome fighter in Vietnam.

based on the F4 Phantoms
Great plane...I never realized what a rivalry existed between the flight crews of the F-4 & F-15's until I landed at Clark AB...the superiority between the planes was well documented in the bathroom stalls.

Any plane spinning one of those big fans thats much biggert than a cessna 172 will have a variable pitch propeller. That way they can optimize for performance. Dont you wish your boat could do that?
