Default Too many DEER !!!

Gang most of you remember when ol BOX Boy posted his little deer hunting Video ..well I keep my mouth shut and let him think his little video was important ..I never said there are 140 class bucks in my neighborhood!!!!
Well today the front page of Houston's paper the Chronicle, what do we have but a major story of Deer in Neighbourhoods!!!

The timeless battle between humans and wildlife is growing ugly in San Jacinto County, where herds of white-tailed deer numbering in the hundreds relentlessly chew their way through garden and forest, possibly upsetting the balance of nature and endangering their own future.

The plague of Bambis has split the normally placid Lake Livingston hamlet of Cape Royale into acrimonious pro-deer and anti-deer factions as community leaders prepare to launch a trap-and-slaughter campaign that could reduce the whitetail population by 300 by mid-March.

In keeping with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department regulations, the residents' group will distribute the resulting venison — as much as 12,000 pounds — to needy residents of San Jacinto and surrounding counties.
So it just goes to show Deer and White pickup trucks are nothing to get excited about !!!!!!

That might be the first time I would have to take a break while deer hunting. To let the barrel cool.....

Looks like too many people feeding deer did not help matters.
Here I am able to remove deer chewing on the landscape. I must call F&G and notify them when (if) I do. It's up to them if I may keep it or not.

Looks like they are definately out of control JT. They only come around the houses here in the dead of winter when things get tough.

I've got Racoons and coyotes! This morning the biggest racoon I ever saw was in my driveway. The first thing I saw was it's tail and thought it was a fox ! When I saw the rest of it that critter was bigger than my beagle!

JT,

I was traveling alot to Austin for workin the summer, and I'd always listen to WOAI out of SA when in the car. They have the same problem both in Austin and San Antonio, and it was in the news a lot. It's illegal to feed deer (in some places at least), but people do it anyway. They just don't understand it ends up being worse for the deer if they do feed them.

Ever been through Boerne? We ususally stop there at my buddy's mother-in-laws on the way to hunt in Junction, and at night there are all over the roads, golf course, etc. Almost hit one on more than one occasion.

I know last time I was down in Big Pine Key there was a lot of Key Deer - nice to look at, but wouldn't want them all the time - big problems with gardens
