Default Open Loop LNG Plants.....Very intresting!!!

Here is a very intresting article about LNG plants and the damage that they can cause. What do you think?

The sad truth is that open loop vaporizers like the ones used in the proposed LNG plants suffer shorter life than closed loop for similar reasons as raw water cooled vs fresh water cooled engines - corrosion. They are cheaper to construct, but because the vaporizing is performed in a single stage (rather than multipass stages), thinner materials and more surface area is required when the brine (sea water) is chilled.

The stupid part is that the LNG is vaporized and dumped into moderate pressure (less than 1000 psi) pipelines. Instead, it should be trucked to points of use in the cryogenic form, and vaporized to high pressure storage for CNG powered vehicles. The energy to compress this fuel is greater than the energy to transport it in liquid form by rail, etc.

The current plan on the east coast of Florida is for a plant in the Bahamas and a pipeline from the Bahamas Port Everglades. The Feds won't let an LNG tankers in port due to the danger. If one blew in Fort Lauderdale, Mickey Mouse would probably be airborne in Orlando!
