Default iPad help needed!!

OK so I got the iPad for my wife for Christmas. Its the 32G WiFi.

I am trying to set it up so its ready for when she opens it. I can't get passed the WiFi set up.

The iPad detects my home network which is named "Home Group" and when I select "Home Group" as the network I want to iPad to join it asks for the pass word.

I type in the case sensitive pass word and all I get is a message that says...

Unable to join network "Home Group"

I have done it 20 times with the same result. And you can't even get past this point. This is in the initial set up menu and without the damn thing getting on a network I can't even use the iPad.

I have added my laptop, my black berry and my wifes iPhone to the network with the same password with no problems.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

A few things to try...

Power cycle your router/cable modem.
Reset the Ipad press the home button and the standby button until you see the apple logo.

What type of router?

Linksys router.

I have tried turning the iPad off and on again. I will try resetting the router next.

Are you sure the password is being entered correctly? I am not making fun but I have seen this done a bunch of times. Normally your first letter on the Ipad is automatically capitalized and if you hit the "shift" key again, it makes it lower case.

If the iPad still won't connect maybe try deactivating one of the devices that now connects, then reconnect that device. If you can get the other device to connect then how can it be a router problem?

Bought my wife the iPad 32g with 3G this Saturday. Went thru all the set up yesterday. When asked for my "password" to connect to my wireless home router/wi-fi, I entered the "WEP" number. Worked fine.

When selecting the network "Home Group" in the list of detected networks it does not give me the option to choose "WEP" for the type of pass word.

But when I choose "other networks" and type in Home Group it will give me that option. So I choose WEP then typw the pass word but now is says "could not find the network "Home Group"

This is very frustrating. It never fails, these computers hate me. Something that should be so simple is anything but.

I removed the laptop from the Home group network then got it back on with the same pass word in a snap.

There must be some setting in the iPad that is not allowing it to get on. But I can't get into the iPad because this damn issue is in the initial set up and I can't do anything until it gets on.

I am about to skip this iPad on the canal like a stone on a lake.

Set it up with itunes, or go find a unsecured network or wireless hotspot to set it up on. This way you can get past the registration screen. Then you may be able to fix it in the settings menu.

Yeah I love technology! I just wish I understood why it was so complicated. I have my lap top, black berry and iPhone on the network with the old password. But for some reason it wasn't allowing the iPad on. Simply changing the password made it work.

I'm still scratching my head.

So I got it all set up but I might have spoiled the surprise. Once set up Apple sent a couple of emails to my wifes account. I got on her email and deleted them but I am afraid they will still show up on her iPhone.

If I delete an email from the computer will it still show up on the iPhone? The email didn't mention anything about an Ipad. One was just Apple verifying the email and the other was a "welcome to iClouds" email.

I deleted both before she read them I just hope they don't show up on the iPhone.

Does she have iCloud attached to her iPhone? If not, you may be OK. If she does, she probably got the email.

Get a REALLY good case for the iPad...our 2 week old iPad2 took a fall and landed just exactly the wrong way....it shattered the front glass. Which is a $320 replacement. Good thing I paid for it with Amex...their buyer protection plan picked up the expense. As far as the case - I bought an OtterBox this time...it's clunky but it definitely protects the device.

I don't think she has iCloud. I am talking about her regular comcast email.

I know when I get an email on my comcast account it will still show up on my black berry even if I delete it from the computer.

I'm just wondering if the iPhone will update the email inbox automatically if something is deleted from a different location.

I have found that if I leave outlook open on my desktop my iPhone does not get the emails sent to that account. That only works if you have outlook set to delete all messages on the server. Basically once outlook downloads a message there is no copy left on the Comcast server. I dont think thats practical from now to Christmas. Try calling apple and have them stop sending emails. They are usually very helpful.
