Default LA Fitness buys Ballys rant

Ballys was bought out by LA Fitness and the "deal" they are giving me is to use the remaining Ballys clubs they did not close. I am not allowed to use any of the LA Fitness Clubs.

They closed the 2 Ballys clubs near my house since they built 2 new LA Fitness Clubs in the same areas.

The original membership was a "Premier" membership thru the original club Vic Tannys. I paid 1k up front with 50/yr dues to use any of the clubs local and nationwide. That has amoritized to about 88/yr since 1985.

They have an "conversion plan" where I pay 20/month - no contract to use their club.

Geez what a deal.

Planet fitness is a joke. Mostly due to the sound alarm. When I rack 420 on a flat bench and want to celebrate I cant deal with an alarm!

I am just peeved that they closed the stinky Bally's gym across the street from the GM tech center and a Ballys in Troy,MI.

The Ballys across from the tech center was the original club if I am not mistaken. It was very much in need of a facility upgrade however from a pure workout it had everything you would need to get a full body workout in just over an hour and close to home to boot.

The Ballys in Troy had more of an upper echelon crowd but had later hours. The gym was well equipped but a bit further from home.

Sounds like a drag. I'd be peeved too. I'm a member of LA and am considering a switch. Old equip, lack of cleaning etc all are contributing to my decision. Good luck.

Not trying to be a dick but if you paid $1k in 1985 and just $50/year for the past 26 years I would say you got your money's worth out of that membership and wouldn't hesitate to explore new options.

There is a Bally's a block from me in Philly. I joined to save $30/month over Philly Sports Clubs. Went back later that day to work out. Everything was really dirty and most of the equipment was still from
The 1980's. Cxld the membership the next day and paid the extra for PSC knowing because Bally's sucked i would never go near as much
