Default How do you fix a zipper???

Have a 1 yr old pair of insulated bibs that I wear hunting when it is cold.

They have zippers down the legs so you can put them on over your boots, well this am as I was putting them on before hoping on 4 wheeler one of the zippers screwed up

You know how it hangs and then when you zip it up the zipper moves but behind it the connections come loose.

Well made it through this am ok but when I tried to fix it the entire zipper part came off

Is there an easy fix

Was thinking I might could pry the part open and little and then get it back on Will this work, not sure if the part is plastic or metal, or can an alteration shop put a new zipper in

Go for it The lady that does all my boat canvas does any kind of zipper repair too. Sometimes they can just replace the slider.

Yes, the simplest fix is to get a new zipper; probably a YKK brand and get one that's oversized so you can hold the latch with gloved hands.

I'm not quite sure I follow what was happening before the zipper slider came off, but if your only problem is that the zipper slide needs to be replaced, that's an easy fix that you can do yourself. This site How To Fix A Broken Zipper is pretty detailed when it comes to zipper repairs. They have videos too.

I used to fix those zippers all the time, that did not catch completely, and then started to separate behind the slide. Start with the zipper open. Take a pair of pliers, and gently squeeze the slide on each side of the pull. It is a very small adjustment, and it is much harder to go the other way, if you over adjust.

edit to add: I just watched the video in the link above, where the guy is doing something very similar, but he is giving a pretty hard squeeze to the center of the slide. I get better results making small adjustments on each side, and you don't risk breaking the little clip where the pull attaches.

I just watched "There's Something About Mary" last night............You just have to yank the zipper really hard.

On the zipper slider there is a small code like 3 digits long. Take that to a sewing store and get a new slider based on the code.
Next at the top of zipper - opposite end of where the zipper starts is a a little c - clamp. Put a penknife tip under it and pry it off.
Put the new zipper slider on the track and replace the little c-clamp.
Had the same happen to my hunting fleece coat...
