Someone ask me to help find them a job. They said they have looked everywhere.
So I say sure, I go to lunch to a drive thru ask the manager are you hiring he says
sure are .Tell him I got someone looking and he says tell xyz to come by and will talk.
Stop by the hardware store and they said they need a loader guy.So I text
xyz and tell him about the 2 jobs.He texts back and says REALLY like im going there.
What wrong with these youngins.I give up!

Hmmm, I would look at both of them as opportunity to learn an industry and see if it is a fit.

For example, the hardware store is a GREAT way to meet trades people and possibly find a lead to a job with one of them.

These days people wont just swallow their pride and take a job to bring home a a check. Everyone wants that perfect job, with perfect hours, and perfect pay. I had a buddy of mine after we graduated high school change jobs 5 times untill he found one that would work with his college schedule. (i know it sounds contradicting, but it proved that jobs were there to be had, if you wanted them bad enough) On the other hand i had another friend go over a year unemployed because "he just couldnt find anything." Moral of the story is that those who want to work will work, and those who dont care to work will avoid it at all costs.

My son is in his 2nd year at ASU. He's a clerk at a corner Circle K. Not much above burger flipper at McD's. And, not one bitch about it; it gives him his gas money, pays his car insurance, cell phone and some pocket change. He's willing to work to get ahead and fortunately, I didn't have to beat that into his sometimes thick skull!

Was your friend xyz there in Zocatti park recently?

Yep. Elderly neighbor passed away and his late-20s relative inherited the house. According to him, he was a hotshot real estate developer back home who lit his $100 cigars with $5 bills, before the RE market crashed.

Since moving to his free house in FL 3 years ago he "can't find a job anywhere because the economy is so bad." Somewhere in the middle of that he decided to go back to school, so he's living off student loans and renting rooms in his house out. He has no money and now doesn't even have a car, yet he is too lazy to mow his own (50x70) lawn.

worst backache I ever had) worked scooping cow shizz for a couple years never and
never regreted it.

Whats wrong? The guy is a piece of shit. My son who is Junior in HS has two jobs. He works from 10-20 hours a week, he is also an honor student and has been working since he was 14.
At my company we can't find enough people to fill positions (packing boxes etc...) Our starting pay used to be $16 and hour for unskilled labor. The people we used to get were pathetic.....We gave up and went with a temp agency who employes Asian workers who we pay 10 bucks and hour, work very well and are happy they have a job. Thats whats wrong

Doesn't sound like he is getting ahead but just holding his own, unless his job also pays for his tuition. I don't mean that in a negative way about his job, just as an indictment of school costs. I hope you son doesn't owe anyone a monthly house payment for his education.

If mommy's going to give you a cell phone, and daddy's going to pay for your car, then where's the incentive to get a J.O.B.?

I know I rode a bike until I earned enough to buy a car. My parents certainly didn't give me anything. If I didn't earn any $, I wasn't buying anything. I worked in the fish market. Stunk like fish on a Friday night but had $....

That's crazy. I have a buddy that won't work certain jobs. First time was because if he did take a job he wouldn't get his state check. it was beneficial for him NOT to work. that's f'd up.

In my book he's not a man then. Part of being a man is taking your lumps, sometimes with some salt. You take what's availible and learn from it, make other oportunities out of it and take/make a step up.

My guess is he's not missing any meals, or he'd be happy to hump some hardwear from the basement to the sales floor and flip some fries in a FF place. One reason unemployment ins. doesn't work.

He's got some scholarships, but it's certainly not a full, free ride. We help some with the tution, too. But yes, he will have some college loans by the time he graduates. You're right - ain't cheap by any means. But he doesn't expect anybody to give him anything on a silver platter, which is the right attitude, unlike so many other kids out there these days.

Going to college also doesn't mean you will have a job when you graduate. Some people are fortunate enough to have one lined up, but a buddy of mine has a degree and cannot find a job even with a degree. It all depends on where you live also. A lot of people throw up all this money for school and when you graduate there's no one hiring or they don't pay anything decent... Some people just have higher goals. Ill be honest and say that I wouldn't work at mcdolnalds. If I was in school yeah, but not right now.

Worked at McD's in my late-teen years, met the Treasurer there. Two people we knew there went into management and now own their own locations.

From small things big things one day come.

Why get a job when the US Suckers Government will give free medical care, a debit card with cash on it and a free place to live. And, they'll pay more if you have some children!

We're doomed.

I am a firm believer in it doesn't matter what you do, work hard and the rewards will come. May sound over simplistic, too bad people dont want to do it. Think of how many people you know who are real wealthy. One day a guy in a benz pulls up and comes to the door, he wanted to talk about a building we owned. It took me a minute but it was the old guy that drives the garbage truck in our neighborhood. We get talking and I learn he has a 8th grade education and is worth millions. He sold out to waste mgt but could not stand not working, so took a job for $12/ hour driving a truck. Work ethic!

My business is in drug testing so I speak to HR managers a lot. Last Friday, had a long conversation with a guy who runs a warehouse/distribution center. His company has a Drug Free Workplace Policy. He currently has a need for 20...20 warehouse people. He says the pay is fair, 401K with company match, full benefits, easy work environment and long term. He cannot find anyone who can pass a drug test. He says that now, the first question he asks an applicant is, "Can you pass a drug test?" If the answer is no, why waste everyones time.

Here is the best part. He routinely gets guys in saying things like, "I would only get $300 more dollars a week working for you than I get in government checks...and I don't have to work for that so it isn't worth it to work."

It is a joke out there.
