Default Black Friday: Looking for TV

If anyone comes across anything decent please pass it along. I already started a thread about hd tv recommendations a few weeks ago, but i am hoping to save a few $ by catching one on sell. I wish there weren't so many freaking options, I can't decide what to get and I'm already tired of looking...

I'm trying to decide Plasma vs LCD vs LED...and from there I'm trying to decide between Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sharp, etc. I can use all the help I can get...

Basically I want something that has a decent picture for general tv shows and the occasional dvd. I don't need a theater quality set. I do think that wi-fi would be nice, but I'm not sure how much I would use it

Can you access an internet browser using wi-fi on tvs? it would be cool to pull up tht on a 55" screen...particularly the sandbar

Take a look at the Samsung Smart TV. The Sears Black Friday ad (early and unofficial) is showing a 55" on sale.

i am thinking hard about this one. i really like the 240hz refresh

samsung un46d6003: http://www.abt.com/product/57669/Samsung-UN46D6003.html

that model, like most of the TVs for sale on BF, has been discontinued. What are the thoughts on this? Most have a short warranty anyway so I don't see it being too big of a deal

Samsung 8000 Series Smart TV. 3D LED/LCD. Amazing in every aspect of the word. Bought a 55" right before Irene hit. My only issue with it was figuring out how to turn it on the first time lol. We also have 2 other Samsung LED LCDs, another 55" and a 42". Only the newest one is a "smart tv" however. They're absolutely awesome. IMO, picture is much better than the more expensive Sony Bravia XBRs that they replaced after the Sonys were stolen

I have a Samsung 46" LED.. So much better picture quality than LCD, it puts out very little heat, and uses less power... I have been very pleased.

www.eastcoasttvs.com and Samsung. but the new stuff is coming out just after xmas at CES so waiting might be good since the new stuff drives the old down in prices sometimes.

Budget?

2 of the best tv's on the market in order of best to 2nd best... Sharp Pro Elite 60X5 and Sony Bravia HX929. The black levels on either will rival that of any plasma on the market. Depending on who you ask, the Elite has a picture quality, color saturation and black levels that are on par with the Pioneer Elite Pro plasmas of the past (arguably the best flat panel TV ever offered).

this is nice: http://www.eastcoasttvs.com/Samsung-.../un46d7000.htm

That's not too bad of a price, but I would think they would go down even more once the next generation tv's are released.

I am noticing a big difference in the contrast ratio b/t the series 6 (4,000,000:1) vs the series 7 (15,000,000:1). If I understand this correctly, it simply means that when the screen changes from very light to very dark, the higher contrast ratio will be able to account for this much better. Is this something to worry about?

Otherwise, they seem to be fairly equal. I hate 3D and don't care to have it anyway.

*Correction: the series 7 is an LCD tv with an LED backlight...what's that all about? the series 8 is the same way. Does that have something to do with the better contrast ratio?

x2 -

Have been very happy with mine and likely will be picking up another one this season for a family room remodel.

You'll get differing opinions on this for sure - personally I'm a brand-loyal guy and have been a Panasonic fan for years. Are there "better" out there? Sure. However, for me, they fit the need nicely and perform very well (great picture, sharpest black levels I've seen, virtually no distortion from any viewing angle, etc.)

Happy Hunting. I'll be out there on BF as well looking for a few good deals. I'll often venture out even if I don't have anything to get - it's like the superbowl of people watching. Cracks me up seeing people running crazy with shopping carts overflowing with flatscreen tv's, computers... - like they're looting the joint.

HH Gregg - Toshiba - I bought a 55" LCD for $700 Labor Day Week End

I think HH stand for Haggle Haggle - tell them what you want to pay then go from there - they like to throw the cords in for free to get you to buy today!

Take a look at the Black Friday ad for Best Buy, they have a Sharp 46" LED 120 hz for $199.99. Probably won't have many in the store and probably won't carry over after Friday, but might be worth the trip if you can get one.
