Default Microsoft word question

I can not seem to do my page set up and have a space at the top when I start typing.
This is a snip of what I have.

Also, what, where is the Gutter or Gutter position.
Does it have anything to do with the margins I need to change?

No.......it's not a sexual position for me...maybe for the homeless or Occupy whatever,.... but not me. Get you mind out of the gutter.

The second clip is what i get on the Default setting.
See, no margin at the top. When I put the cursor there, I can not Click and drag to lower it.

It's gotta be something simple.

Thanks,

Just looked at my Word settings and mine are just like yours but I don't have the same problem. Have you tried messing around with your headers and footers?

Gutters are the "margin" between vertical columns of text when you have that (like you see in newsletters, magazines, etc.

Just drag the little symbols in your rulers to change the margins.

You have a space at the top because you have a Top and Bottom margin setting of 1" and you are viewing your page in Print Layout mode. Go to the View tab and select draft.

That can drive you nuts, can't it.

Can't say that hasn't happened to me ... a few times. Here you go 240 LTS:

The setting for showing white space between pages may have been turned off. To show white space between pages, do the following:
  1. On the View menu, click Print Layout.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab.
  3. Under Print and Web Layout options, select the White space between pages (Print view only) check box

I tried that first and it didn't change anything.

Yeah, but the bitch in it is I can't figure out how I am turning off the white space between pages. Thinking it must be a [CTRL] character that I'm hitting with my sloppy typing skills, without realizing it.

I know for a fact I didn't go into it and uncheck that box to get it where it was.
Maybe I am doing the same thing you are somehow.

Thanks again.

It could also be something as simple as changing the View. If you aren't on 'Print Layout', that may be it.
