Several friends recently had the snip. Nobody found it to be that big of a deal. I got lucky that my wife had her tubes tied after our second child. Some of my buddies were terrified before and then were surprised at the lack of discomfort. The most important thing is to follow the Dr.'s advice for the first 2-3 days afterward. Apparently that first 72 hours is really important. Good luck.

MAC just means 'Monitored Anesthesia Care" they will put an IV acess in, bp cufff and O2 sensor.
IF you need some IV meds then they can give it. It does NOT mean you will be put out. That would be LMA anesthesia.
BTW They gave me IV Valium for the injections into the nerves, awake for everything esle though

I got snipped about 10 years ago.......I didn't realize I couldn't eat before and had a big lunch right before I showed up. They could give me anesthesia because of eating and said they could only offer a "local" if I was willing to try it.

They don't call it a "local" for any reason other than the needle goes right where they will be cutting!!!! 15-20 minutes later it was done and I walked out of there. Next day was fine, the day after that I walked around too much and was a bit sore. By the 4th day no real issues.

In hindsight I'd say getting your wisdom teeth pulled out is a bigger ordeal than you "bungie-cords" tied in a knot.

what sucks is I have to winterize the Grady on Sunday. The Marina shuts off the water Monday. Hopefully I'll be ok by then.

I had it done 3 months ago. No MAC, no IV's or any of that. Just a shot in the nads to numb em up, 10 mins later done. Not too huge of a deal. Had it done on a Friday, back at work on Monday. The procedure is no big deal.
NOW. That being said, here are my thoughts on recovery: instead of taking 3 days off work, I should've taken four. During those first 3-4 days post procedure do not move around much and KEEP THE ICE PACK BETWEEN THE LEGS! Tighty whiteys help support the boys, avoid boxers. Even though you are feeling well, avoid activity during this time or you risk swelling of the balls. I didn't have much pain as long as the ice pack was on, did take some ibuprofen from time to time. Sex is out for about a week or so. I could'nt go back to sports (ju jitsu) for about 3 weeks. I'm now 3 months post, pain free, wife's off the pill and life is good.

It is most definitely NOT a big deal. Just had a local for mine. Do the ice pack or bag of frozen peas or whatever. It helps. Doc prescribed Vicodin for pain afterward and I never used 'em. A couple days of Tylenol and that was that.

My 2nd wife did mine AT HOME - after she caught me accidently having sex with the babysitter.

She just used a peacock feather, a ballpeen hammer, a spatula, and 2 LAWYERS!

The proceedure wasn't too bad - it was the LAWYERS that REALLY made me hurt!

Seriously, had it done in the 80's, with a local. Wasn't as bad as I had thought, but DO listen to the doc on the followup stuff!

Regards,

paulysjob - I wouldn't worry to much about it. Really it's a fairly uncomfortable procedure but goes by quick. Just take care AFTER the procedure.

My story - did it last year after wife and I decided 2 kiddos were enough. Found a local guy that was a well known "snipper" in our area. His name? Dr. Richard (Dick) Chopp....yep seriously. Kind of a coolness factor to it after he gave me my camo colored t-shirt with "I was Chopped"...at the Urology Team.

I heard it has to be "kissed" about 20 times before I go in to make sure the guys don't make it through...

True story - friend came home from the vasectomy and had his wife tell him "honey, you were just a little late with that operation - I'm pregnant again"!

You won't, I didn't.
Did the docs discuss what you could do to cure the high voice that follows the procedure???
