Default Oh boy, this is not good!

Low and behold, what do I see at the crack of dawn this morning in the fish pond, a muskrat. ....

Now, how do I get ride of it?

I've got a large pond (approx. 20k gals.) that is rubber lined. The last thing I need is for the thing to chew a hole in the liner - lets just say I'm non to please with the concept of the muskrat eating all my fish either. The bottom line it has to go sooner than later!!! ....like TODAY if I can help it!

Now where are my box of foothold traps?

Any advice is welcome on how to rid this problem.

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin' the town and doin' it right
In the evenin'
It's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jingin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

Nah! I like fire!

Particular technique?

Well here is one of my favorites.

Find his hole, dump several ounces/pounds of carbide down the hole, follow up with a few gallons of water, allow a few minutes for the acetylene gas to generate, chunk a torch in the hole. GUARANTEED to free the hole of all vermin.

One day I'll tell you about the dog yard, concrete slab, rat holes and gasoline. Everyone turned out to be okay, but the dogs for the rest of there life were scared to death of a gas can.

I can tell you what NOT to do. My grandfathers pond was invaded my muskrats. My father being the ever inventive type figured out how to get rid of them. He took the tractor put an arsenic tablet in the gas tank hooked a hose over the exhaust and into the muskrat tunnel. He did kill the little varmints. But he also killed every fish in the pond. Since it was his screw up it was our "duty" to pick every last one of those dead fish and place them into 55 gallon drums. Oh it was a weekend place so the fish were dead for a week before we found them.

The water line has not gone down as of yet, so I'm thinking this guy is new to my pond, or he has figured out there is no digging in the bank to make a home. ?

Why not just shoot him? Easy, clean and you'll be sure you got him.

Sure. Shoot with shotgun. Grill over slow heat for 4 hours. Fed-ex it to your friends up north as redneck BBQ. Order pizza. Wait for reviews.

My only problem with that is shooting holes in the liner.

I don't figure I need a second, the one I've got is just EXCELLENT! I know for a fact if you didn't know what you were eating you'd be coming back for seconds and thirds....it's that good.

What do you figure I could bait it with?

I've got my traps set - two leghold and one box trap - they are just in place with no bait.

I "think" I've got it trapped in rock? Around my pond I've got 1k - 4k lb flat rocks (amor stone); I saw him go into this one hole over by the water falls....I didn't see it come out before I closed in the entrence way with large rocks....I "think" it is trapped? I'm not positive, but I think it's in a stone tome with no dirt to dig....shitz to be him/ her.
