Default OT: Banking... Anyone that was with Wachovia????

What do ya think of Wells Fargo? I have my opinions and may well take all my accounts to zero there but wanted others experiences.

I would recommend 5/3. After trying about 4 others, I've landed with them and have moved everything to 5/3 bank; personal, business, credit cards, etc.

If they have branches where you're located, I'd definitely look into it. They're trying to expand their market share in the SouthEast, and as a result, offer really nice perks to members, and set themselves apart from some of the bigger banks with exceptional personal service. It's the first time in my life that I know everyone at my bank, and they all know me. I don't ever have to call the hotline and "press 3, press 2, press 5, hold for 30 minutes"...I just call the branch, speak to my banker, and get problems solved. They value their customers, and it shows.

Sorry, a little off topic, no opinion on Wells, but I tell everyone I know about 5/3 because I'm so impressed.

We were with Wachovia and subsequently Wells Fargo after the acquisition. I have to say that the customer service in the local branch was outstanding. Unfortunately, I had to go into the branch because their online banking sucks so badly. They screwed up a lot of things with our accounts from check reorders to not being able to find money within their own financial institution. For example, prior to the conversion we had auto paid our mortgage for about 7 years. When the conversion happened, the checking acct showed the money transferred but the mortgage acct did not. We called and asked what the deal was after the first late reminder. Then they started sending what appeared to be very expensive mailings via UPS with packets about dealing with touh financial times and how they'd work with us to help pay the mortgage! It was laughable. After many phone calls to some zeros who were disinterested and useless we finally spoke to some local VPs who were able to get things straight. I am no stranger to software for financial institutions, so I understand and expect some data conversion issues and the like, but it was the lack of response at the lower levels that irritated us.
more than that, the online bill pay is the worst I've seen, and as stated I have seen plenty. We are taking our money elsewhere.
Funny thing is that the only reason we have these accounts is because we wanted to keep our funds local, when then bank was Southtrust (2 mergers prior). Mow we are with mega bank from far off land. There are too many other good FIs out there with better service and better online services.

I don't know why anyone uses a bank anymore. My credit union pays me (not much) to use them.

Most self employed people use banks. My personal stuff is at the NC SECU but they don't do business accts. I use BB&T for my business. Happy so far.

My wife and I were with Wachovia for the past 8-10 years. Three years ago when the economy took a hit they came out with a savings program that anytime you used your debit card they put $1 in a savings account and you could also put up to an additional $100 in that account per month. It was a great program with a boosted interest rate that you could'nt get anywhere else. After 2 years I had over $6k in the account earning $10 per month in interest. Wells Fargo just switched our accounts over 2 months ago and they had the same program (we thought). I get my statement the first month and my savings account earned $0.11 for the month. Talk about bait and switch tactics. I am moving all my accounts from this gobment bailout. Rant over.

My 401k was transferred to Wachovia, now it is with W(t)F. My quarterly mailings used to arrive within a month of the quarter ending. Now they get to me a week before the following quarter ends. Other than that no issues but I don't have my deposits with them.

I never use automated bill-pay programs. For a variety of reasons I prefer to know when money is leaving my hands.

Being in Ohio, I have dealt with 5/3 for years. I can tell you personally, and this is the majority opinion about 5/3, they have great customer service in branch, but their operations is total shit. They horribly screw things up all the time, their underwriting dept. is slower than molasses, they close credit lines for no reason so on and so on. I've seen them dump so many small business credit lines for no reason in the past few years that it just makes me sick to think about what a large role they have played in the Central Ohio economy but ripping lifelines away from small businesses, not to mention the struggles they create by calling loans and businesses having to come up with cash and new loans in 30 days.

mine sucks, my employees bring there checks to check cashing places and pay the high fees before they will go to wells fargo to cash them. I basically have to deposit checks and get a bank check from them to put in my regular account. They put a 3 day hold on there own check one time. They saw the account in there system but still had to put a hold on it. Crazy. Plus all the tellers are ugly here.

I have to show my Drivers License EVERYTIME at Wells Fargo (Wachovia, Southtrust) and the girls know me (cash checks). Crazy. We have several business accounts there and never a month without an issue.

Other than the fact that WF erroneously started foreclosure proceedings on my house, they are great.

Needless to say, I refinanced shortly thereafter.

I have a car loan with BB&T and have been impressed so far. Actually looking at moving everything from BofA to them...if it wasn't so darn difficult with direct deposit and electronic bill pay, I would have already done it.

I really liked Wachovia. WF online billpay sucks. It's complicated, and they don't always send you email when the bills come in to them. But I still have the Wachovia Crown Checking account, with free checks, a free safe deposit box and I won't leave until my HELOC is paid off (it's .25% below prime), if and when I sell the place in Maryland. Then I'll move everything to the local credit union.

I didnt have any trouble with the FU to Wachovia thing but I am nervous about this...

I got several letters the other day about the switch that literally made no sense..."My accts are going to be switched on such and such but because of such and such my accounts will not be switched..."

I'll bolt if given any reason even though I was pretty happy at W.

Wachovia & Wells Fargo both suck if you ask me. I'll have to say though my daughter need me to make a deposit fo her and she is with Wells Fargo. The line was a little long but it was nice they had a greeter to keep you company while the tellers work their ass off.

No big banks for me. NC SECU for part, First Citizens for part, and Piedmont Bank (local) for business.

I may be the only one with a bad review... so it may be my bad luck... or my banking habits may be completely different than mine.
Let me say first that:
1- I may step inside the bank or have contact with a live teller, once or twice every 2 years at the most.
2- I do 97% of my banking on line, 2.5% on the phone, and 0.5% at the branch. ( i will have to do some international transfers from now on so that's the only reason I would have to step in the branch at all)
3- Do not have any relation with any branch manager, I do not know him, he does not know me. Up to this point I have not felt the need to develop that relation.

I say "RUN Forest RUN". I really do not feel like going over every single pain in the ASS screw up they were able to achieve...but I can tell you that I was normally happy with Wachovia, UNTIL was bought by WF... from that moment on it was absolutely down hill... and more expensive.
All my corps and business were with wachovia, now WF...I'm a small fish but can say that I have monthly average balances in the hundred of thousands.

They found ways to pissed me off sooooooo much that, right now, I'm in the process of moving EVERY SINGLE CENT I have (personal or business) to another bank.

just my 2 cents.
