Makes me realize we can't cut the budget then there will only be 10 behind them. They even have National Guardsmen for goodness sake. I know they are only following orders but if they are called up shouldn't they be put to work? Let the flames begin!

Accountablity
If something goes south the Gov wants the world to see the people he puts in charge. The Gov will hold the person dropping the ball accountable instead of taking the hit.

What was the extra cost to us for those people to show up? I guess.............zero.

I do understand your basic point though.....why the need for the backdrop of people.

People like to see themselves on TV, it shows they are important, if the governor has them up on the podium with him, they owe him

Kinda reminds me of the "How many people does it take to screw in a light bulb?" joke.

Most governors like to reward their tools with some face time in front of the cameras.

The more people around the more it looks like there is a lot of coordination and action taking place as they repeat the same "warnings" they do in every event.

I agree 100%. It seems to have started after 9-11 and now they do it to announce a thunderstorm or missing dog.

In NC I believe it's her makeup entourage to try and make it look like she doesn't have the Joker's mouth. Unfortunately the joke is on us here in NC.

I remember when the Legislature sent the first budget of her term for approval with 800 Million in new state taxes at the height of the financial crisis she vetoed it and told them she wanted 1.4 Billion in new taxes. They sent over a new budget after some serious debate that was somewhere over 1 Billion and she signed it. The very next election the legislature got cleaned out by the voters. Now next year her term is up and she will likely be gone as well.

Would you prefer the backdrops of some of those Tea Bag Party/Glenn Beck rallies where they photoshop the crowd to make it look twice the size?

Most Governers need those people behind them to hold them up, because they have no spine of their own!
