Default Car shopping again: Lexus ES

Anyone own one? REALLY nice car. Havn't driven it yet but spent some time at the dealer. This is for my wife...

I had one for a day ('11 ES350 I think) as a loaner while our GX was getting serviced. Nice car but there was something kind of vanilla about it. Just not a very exciting car to drive. One other thing that struck me as a little odd was that the roof seemed kind of low (or the seats high) unless the seat was reclined a a little more than I would typically have it (and I'm just just under 6'). On the flip side, it had plenty of power, rode great, handeled decent, had a great looking interior and the fit & finish was exceptional.

Buy a Camry and keep the $10,000 change.

I bought a 2009 used, Certified ES for one of my boys. It is a great vehicle and we are both very happy with it. It drives nice, gets good mileage and holds it value fairly well. We have had it for almost a year and have had not problems at all.

Are you sure you looked at a Camry XLE ?? Same car..with almost as much soundproofing and all the same mechanicals and most electronics..and for nearly $5k-6k less...

The ES is a very good and comfortable car. The Acura is nice too but the ride and seats are not as smooth and comfortable. We have both.

I have owned both Lexus and Acura too and agree that the ride in the Lex is much smoother and 'wife-friendly'. The ES is basically a trimmed up Camry and you may want to look at a GS. They are a little more sporty and certainly shed the 'old-lady' or 'boring' stigmatism.

Have you considered an Infinity? I almost bought one of those twice but opted - as others noted - for the cheaper Acura.

What can I say guys? I have no say in this one. This is my wifes choice 100% and this is my gift to her since I have had/have all the toy's so far so it's her turn. Besides, if I have any chance at all of getting another boat, I need to make her happy.

I like the Acura's b ut she doesn't. We looked at the Camary and it was decked out but the Lexus seemed to have a better finish but again, her choice.

We are looking at the GS as well and we really liked the Infinity as well but the sales guy was a little ruff but we may go back. This is going to be a process but well worth the work.

You will be happy with any one of the cars. The Lexus badge does make a difference. Driving a Lexus is different than driving a Camry because let's face it, it is just a nicer car and a status symbol. At the end of the day, you don't buy a luxury vehicle because it's practical.

Let wifey get EXACTLY what she wants and be happy for her. Especially if there is a boat on the line.

(The ES holds its value very well and will run for nearly ever. Lexus sells more ES's than any other vehicle in its line.)

Mine is a little overv2 years and not one bit if trouble. However, you can't operate the gps while you are moving.

It sounds like your wife has your mind made up, and fortunately she has chosen an outstanding car. My ex GF had one and it was a pleasure to drive. It was an 03 and never had any problems. If someone vandalizes your sideview mirror, it will cost about $700 to have it replaced...parts are spendy!

We chose the IS350... Little more sporty, and has all the go you'll ever need but you sacrifice a bit in the ride.... It's a firm ride... And a blast to drive

My wife has an '06 GS430, and before that had an '01 GS430

Plenty fast for her (and me, when I get to drive it), and she likes the "sports sedan" image.

So far, just oil changes, tires and brakes - 65k miles and no problems . . .
