Not an old salt, but there seems to be one HELL of a lot of rain in this storm.

Speed is what 16mph?

Did you get lots of rain just a while back?

Flooding and trees would be my concerns.

Yes the news always makes it sound worse than it is. Watch the hurricane on a channel like the Weather Channel or MSNBC. The local stations love to dramatize everything. They will have some reporter standing out in 30 MPH winds pretending like they're about to fly away.

Also check out Accuweather.com. There is a guy on there that knows hit stuff. When SE Florida was still in the cone this guy was predicting it would bypass us and hit NC and it did.

This guy.....

YES! We are now in the worse of it here. Power went out 7 hours ago. Winds are strong but it is all the rain that is the main problem. Our basement is flooded and I don't remember it that bad with the others.

SurprisIngly surge tide us non existent

Reporters only report the facts, they NEVER exaggerate.

Typically they over-estimate so that everyone is "prepared". Although I agree Isabel came ashore at just the right place to kick the Chesapeake and it's tributaries right in the nuts (that was one forcast they under-estimated). This storm isn't too big a deal and even though it will be back out to sea by the time it hits NJ, storm surge should be much less than predicted. Lots of rain (we're around 7-8 inches right now and still coming), some wind, 1/2 the predicted storm surge.
