Default Shark week Rant....

Ok I am getting a little sick of all the "attacked by sharks" shows every nite. It really does a disservice to the species.

Sharks are already under enough pressure. We dont need Discovery adding fuel to the fire.

Also they just let a tiger shark eat a plastic bucket with chum inside.

I guess they never thought that the shark may actually eat the bucket?

Now I know its a tiger and they can eat anything but come on Discovery!

I agree, I look forward to shark week to learn about sharks. This year it was all about fearmongering. Tonights episode with the dual survival guys wasn't too bad though.

About a dozen Bullsharks were under and around the boat while Cobia fishing.

So how many whole and intact Cobia did you actually boat? I guess it was the wrong time to jump in to cool off.

Garett - Fortunately I boated three and broke two other slobs off that day. I had the wife and she only observed, so I had to both angle (fight the fish) and gaff. Those sharks were lit up. It definitely was NOT the day to fall overboard. Those Bulls ranged from 5' - 10'+. The Cobia were swimming right with them. I used to jump in to cool off, not anymore and have not done so for a long time. While canyon fishing off NJ I have witnessed large Makos rocket out of the drink like a missile and 10+ feet into the air. That has a way of effecting your future behavior.

Not that it will make you feel any better, but tonights new episode is titled "When Fish Attack 3!"

The episode tonight at 10am is going to include a story on this spearfisherman's experience that got a lot of attention on youtube which is how Discovery got a hold of him (he's the brother of one of the Sailfish forum members).

If you are going to go swimming in the sharks domain, one shouldn't be shocked by the risk of getting attacked by a shark

Spearfishing can attract two kinds of sharks; those that want to eat the speared fish, and those that want to eat the person that speared the fish.

I think they ran out of material a few years ago. You can only show a great white come out of the water so many times. I love Shark Week but it seems to be the same show over and over and over. The reinactments suck too.

Nothing new or of any value. See shark, see shark eat. Maybe they can do a week on gators or crocs. Same deal.

on the show tonight someone who is a guide off of Key Largo got bit by a shark. his defense was "I wasn't attacked by a shark, I was kissing a shark on the mouth and it bit me." which is true because he thought turning a reef shark upside down and kissing it on the snout was a good idea.... it didn't take his lip all the way off and 200 some stitches later he is ok

I must say last nights "When Fish Attack 3" was kind of funny! I esp liked it when that guy tried to remove the hook from the baby great white's mouth and it clamped down on him and starts screaming like a little girl. The commentary from the shark scientist wanna be comedian was a nice touch too.

They should really call it "Great White Week" I don't think I've seen anything that wasn't a white shark all week. I'm not saying it hasn't been on there, but from my casual observations I haven't seen it.
