Default Wireless Weather Stations

Do you all have any recommendations?

I am thinking of either the La Crosse Technology or an Accu Rite model. I am looking for something with wireless wind speed and direction as well as Hygrometer.

I had a LaCrosse and it worked well for years 100% unattended. Eventually the plastic, especially on the wind parts, got beat-up by the elements and fell apart. I didn't look after it at all, not sure if that woulda helped any.

I am also looking at Ambient Weather Stations. The cool part of this is you can load it onto weather underground.

That is my biggest concern with the acu rite models - I think I remember having one of those break on me a number of years ago.

I have a Davis Weather Station that I haven't hooked up yet (it's only been about 6 years).

Ya, at the time, it was their top of-the-line unit. I've been waiting 5 years for a property settlement, didn't want to install it to something I didn't own. We go to mediation Wednesday.

I have a good, reliable Oregon Scientific wireless that is on it's 7th year. Used everything but the rain gauge because I couldn't find a good spot for it. I don't think they make the same model anymore, but when it's time for a new one I'd like to get one with a USB for uploading.

I have an old Taylor outdoor red liquid type that I can see from my window. And, Channel 101 which gives all the local meteorological stuff 24 hrs a day here there and at the local airports. They even give "local information of interest to your area" - wave heights, visibility, wind speed and dir. in the Sound , water temperature and tides.

My Taylor is a classic - the freezing point indicator is at 28 (I assume its made in China) One notch below the 30 instead of one notch above

To paraphrase an old joke....if I get wet I assume its raining. If I get white I assume its snowing. If I sweat its way too hot. If I have sore joints its low pressure. If the rain is sideways or going up its a tornado. , etc. etc.

You folks have had better luck with Oregon Scientific than I have. I had to replace the main (display) unit within the first 4 months after purchase under warranty because the screen failed. The device operated without issue for another 5 months and then the device failed to display information. I gave up and sent it to the trash can.

Davis seems to be good equipment and am going to go that route. Ironincally, we have a Davis unit that requires to be hard wired and have not used it to date. Davis now has a wireless system that I am likely going to buy. I would like to sell the wired Davis unit if possible and will let it go for half what it cost.

Live and learn.

I have the wireless Davis and its been great. Had to replace the battery outside twice in 4 years, stopped holding a charge but they are like 7 bucks.
