due to me doing projects in multiple locations, i have ended up with a Fein, a Craftsman, and a Dremmel.

the Dremmel came out originally at $99 which was the same as the Craftsman. after using both i'd say compared to the others, the Dremmel is pretty light weight and worth about what Amazon is asking for it.

I've had good success with refurbs - imho often they're better risk than new. Prob gonna pass on this though

I paid $99 for one at HD. It works fine but gets too hot to hold after about 10 minutes of use. I had to take the first one back after it burned out cutting a few door jambs (so I could lay tile in the bathrooms) It's OK for occasional use, but it's by no means a production tool. I see that milwaukee has come out with a cordless one for $149 at HD. Looks to be built much better. I think I'd buy that one. Or spring for the Fein original multimaster.

I use my Fein HARD. I don't think a lightweight Dremel has enough balls to do some jobs. It's not a quality issue, it's a "send a boy to do a mans job" issue.

The Dremmel works great for some things like sharpening my chain saw blade but I was really disappointed when I got the attachment to use for say cutting outlet holes. Impossible to run a straight line or decent circle without setting up guides.

You got that right. The Fein may cost 3 times as much but it will last 100 times longer and git'er done at that!

It was a one-day "Gold Box" deal.
