Default Lowrance HDS 10 cheap, maybe too cheap

Anyone have thoughts on this, besides Nigerian bank scam?

"This is a brand new Lowrance HDS10 Fishfinder+ GPS chartplotter featuring insight USA. The graph is new in box, and has never been opened. This is the new top of the line unit from Lowrance, and is side scan compatable. This graph has the Insight USA mapping featuring 5000 waypoints and 200 routes,a 10.4" Display, built in GPS, Full VGA resolution, 83/200 KHZ, and features a 2 year warranty. The box contains all power cables, tranducer, user guide, mounting bracket and hardwear.

This is an incredible opportunity to purchase the best unit on the water. This is like watching a flat screen tv!

contact me at: chrisonice1@hotmail.com

Thanks"

These are posted on several fishing sites (just google hds 10 for sale) and the email response I got back is VERY scammy reading:

No doubt, just the "english" on the response is broken. This "guy" has fresh postings on SC fishing, Yacht and Boaters World, etc. What kind of response do you think you would get if they got an email from a LEO?

"airway bill receipt" WTH??

Waiting to hear from you soonest WTH??

broken English is just that.

If you want to know for sure, do what i do when I place something on Craigslist:

"I respond to e-mails when you provide your area code and zip code and tell me what city you live in."

That eliminates almost all spammers, because those guys have no clue how to get that information. Honest buyers don't have to give up any personal information, but they get a response if they prefer to use e-mail (as do I).

Got burned on ebay on Lowrance unit several years ago that had a GREAT "buy it now price"

Luckily Paypal stood behind it and who ever it was got a BUNCH of people, they had sold a couple hundred items and had perfect rating but after the fact it made sense. They had some GREAT DEALS on lowrance units and some other high dollar electronics all with "buy it now" and it was right before Christmas.

I did not get the unit before the Holidays, not a present, and then was gone to AR the next week duck hunting. When I came back and still did not have the item I started sending emails, really did not panic due to holidays, and finally requested a phone number via ebay.

The phone was to a transmission shop in some town in TN and the lady on the phone told me she had received about 100 calls from people looking for items on ebay. She had no clue what ebay even was

Needless to say when I looked at the feedback it was loaded with pissed off people, then I looked through items they had sold and realized we all had been had.

Paypal refunded my money with no problem, so the advice I give you is from experience TRUST ME

Agreed on all points, but if you are bored, look at how many reponses they have gotten on various sites. If they get 10 people to send $1500, that is a pile of money. I should have titled my post "Beware, Scam" as it somewhat looks like I am questioning the legitamacy of the advertisement.

Paypal is Not AMEX. They go after the money in the Seller's PP account (if it's there), and if the Seller pulls that money out before the challenge, a buyer is screwed. Paypal doesn't subsidize a buyer's mis-fortune.

X2. I bought 2 Penn reels from a guy in Miami that were listed very close to most big stores but $50-$75 less ( around $450 versus $525). I even called the store, a brick and mortar store in Miami and talked with the guy. Payed with paypal, waited, waited, and finally I get a call from the local SO that this guy was stealing reels from the store and putting empty boxes back on shelf/in inventory. I filed a claim but got back about 1/3 of what I paid. Paypal told me they could not get "blood from a stone"

Link your PP account to your AMEX card. Problem solved.

I run all major purchases on ebay/paypal through my CC for that reason. Small purchases, less than $100, I do not think much about it but over that I run it on my CC(have one CC just for ebay purchases) for extra protection

Also be aware that if the seller is not an authorized Lowrance dealer, you may have trouble getting the warranty honored by Lowrance. The "full warranty" may only apply to the original purchaser, which may be "Chris", the seller. Important to know for the kind on money you're spending.

BTW, the English in that original ad language is OK, certainly not the broken gibberish I've seen in obvious scams.

Always pay with paypal using your credit card (preferably Amex) as the funding source. When Paypal cant get you money back, call Amex and they make it right.

Ask the guy in the ad for a phone number.

I have a NIB HDS-10 for sale for $1950 that is NOT a scam, and is NOT a rebuild. My name is Wally, I live in Leesburg, GA, native North Carolinian, and my phone number is (229) 344-1973. Hey, I'm a retired Army officer and a VN vet NOT suffering from PTSD. Although my '04 Proline 23WA does sometimes give me conniption fits.
The HDS-10 has the factory installed 4.0 software plus the Insight maps built in, and the warranty will apply to whoever buys it and sends in the paperwork. Navico has really improved Lowrance customer service and warranty repairs.
Why am I selling it? The boat I purchased 6 months ago had a 5 yo Lowrance LCX111 built in. After I updated the software, it started locking up. I got disgusted and bought a Humminbird 1198 with side imaging. I have two H'birds on my bass boat, and my place at Lake Eufaula is right across the lake from the H'bird factory. Lots closer than Tulsa, OK for me. Lowrance tech support told me to send the LCX111 in, so I did, hoping to get it fixed and sell it for $5-600 and recover some of the $2700 I spent on the H'bird. Lowrance called back and offered me a new HDS-10 for $650 for my LCX. So I did that instead, and now I'm trying to sell it. If someone is looking to go all the way up to StructureScan with the LSS-1 transducer, this would be a great unit for you. Give me a call if you're interested. I speakee the English good Paypal works for me, and I'll give you a 10 day money back guarantee. I'll even pay the freight to the lower 48, or lower 55 if you're the Prez.
