neighbor issues.

Or more specifically the neighbors kids. So the renters next door seem to run a daycare service. Cars coming and going all day and night, lots of little kids, honking horns etc. Well these kids cant seem to stay out of my yard, and thats not really an issue. What IS an issue is these kids messing up my yard. The trow their trash in it, dig holes, move planter bricks around, make a mess, and of course never clean up their mess. Now these are all very young kids I would say the oldest is 12 or 13 the rest are 8 and below. I have tried to be Mr nice guy and I have just picked up after them and kicked their trash into their own yard but I'm getting tired of it. ******* ****deleted*********** or be a bad neighbor in return especially since I'm gone so much. Whats the best way to deal with this problem? I'm thinking about putting a fence along that side of the yard and hopefully the adult if there is one will get the idea and keep the kids in line, but I'm not holding out for that one...

What do you guys think?

Move? Or call the county on them if you can prove they are running an illegal business then the county will shut them down, the other option is to have an accidental fire that spreads.
all kidding a side they could be dealing dope out of there. Can you install a CCTV camera and a DVR to record the activity?

CaptKennyW 06-05-2011 06:21 PM

I just moved in a year ago so no im not going anywhere. The drug thing did cross my mind. I dont want to make trouble, i just want some adult supervision. The kids are still out there at nearly 9:30 on a school night, some of them are in diapers!

The video apsect will help make a case, may take some time but could really help you in the long run

Put up a chain link fence. That will keep the little 'uns out of your yard. Even an 8 year old understands a fence and that was the only way we could keep our 40 YO neighbors from messing around in our yard.

Good fences make good neighbors they always say!
Good and TALL as possible!
Yes! Call me a "fencist"
Good luck!

CaptKennyW 06-05-2011 06:51 PM

Ya a chain link fence sounds like the best idea so far.

t500hps 06-05-2011 06:56 PM

Get a dog......a big one. After a German Shepard runs around out there for a week or 2 they will put up a fence themselves!!!!!!

Clear Solution 06-05-2011 07:06 PM

electric chain link fence...

Yeah, I know, Im one for talking.

SCSaltwater 06-05-2011 07:09 PM

A buddy of mine was in a similar situation, except it was dogs not children. Long story short, he put up a fence and the neighbors were more offended that he put up a fence and their dogs didn't have as much room to run. Fence is the best idea for sure, putting a dog in that fence isn't a bad follow-up idea to any wise-ass kids who want to hop the fence.

SLTWATER 06-05-2011 07:30 PM

Who cares what color they are? Bad neighbors are just that , bad. I wouldn't put up with any of that bs. We live in a great neighborhood on the water and my neighbors are awesome. Black on the left and white on the right!;)

obbayer 06-05-2011 07:50 PM

Kenny, I know you got a pool, you'd better do something PDQ before something bad happens and you end up getting your butt sued over it.

CaptKennyW 06-05-2011 07:55 PM

my backyard already has privacy fenceing and no tresspassing signs and the pool itself has another fence around it. I should be safe there. And yes bad neighbors are bad neighbors I shouldn't have even brought that part up.

Renters with a daycare center - WONDERFUL combo. :roll:nono:

Is the property "zoned" or are there covenants that ALLOW a "business" to operate there? ;?

Talk to the renter AND the OWNER - be SPECIFIC about the violations to your property, and be specific about your intent to shut them down if it doesn't improve - IMMEDIATELY!

Call the police EVERY time they violate your "no trespass" sign - they'll get tired of the calls and have their OWN talk with the renter/daycare owner.

And go ahead and put the fence up - they probably won't correct their own problem in the long run.

And folks wonder WHY "renters" get a bad rap ... :roll

^^^^^^^

Good stuff right there!

Check with your local Code Enforcement dept. They (if you have one) will probably have a home occupation ordinance that would either require permits ($$$) for a daycare or at least would prohibit the picking up/dropping off of kids (excessive traffic for a residential area) as well as signage and noise ordinance violations.

That's an easy fix around here. One letter and they would be out of business. ;)

Are you in an HOA area? They might have rules too.

Plus, I would put up a fence anyway...

Good luck!

Fl Fisherman 06-06-2011 12:57 PM

Ask them to split the cost of a fence If they are good folks they may.

LI Sound Grunt 06-06-2011 01:05 PM

Bruce is right renters cannot possibly have a legal daycare center. But Also, I did a quick read and see some stuff was deleted, but did you talk to the owner , and what did he say?

Fl Fisherman 06-06-2011 01:14 PM

Ya might think about the liabilty if one gets hurt on your side

CaptKennyW 06-06-2011 04:57 PM

No the deleted stuff was declared non-PC by the FB gestapo. I havent talked to the adult over there I cant honestly say if there is one. So many cars come and go Im not really sure who the renter is. I might talk to the land lord next time I see him if this keeps up though.

emgag 06-06-2011 05:08 PM

Just do what Bruce W said and be done with it. Talk to the one in charge of the property, put up a fence. Geez! Not that big of a deal.

CaptKenny

If you live within the Norfolk City limits contact

Bureau of Neighborhood Quality
400 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA 23510
757-664-6500
I work for a similar agency in Milwaukee. These departments are generally complaint driven. Call them up and make your complaint, they will send out a Code Enforcement Inspector to check out the compliant. If there are ordinance violations the Department will contact the building owner and give him the oppurtunity to correct them.

Good luck

Buy some land in West Texas. My nearest neighbor is almost 6 miles away.
