Default Guy steals a police car - would you have shot him?

This is a regional news story here. I think that I would have at the minimum drawn down on the suspect and might have tried to shoot him instead of tazing him. What would you have done? I do realize that the situation went bad real fast but once the guy was in the police car he really had the ability to cause some damage.

In Florida, by state statute, you are allowed to use "deadly force" when: You or someone elase is in fear for thier life or grave medical injury; to prevent a felony; to arrest a known felon; yada, yada."
the three I quoted fit, so the officer would be allowed to protect himself.
I would have shot him when attacked, especially aftertazing him with no effect.

That is kind of what I was thinking as long as I had the room to draw then I would have shot.

First time...no...
Second time...no question...save society the expense of continued felonies (maybe even murders (of cops, esp.), trials, incarcerations, and the cycle repeats itself.
What value do people like this have?

First rule if confronted by a cop...shut up and do what he says.
If you don't, all consquences are on you!

I saw a traffic stop in central St. Petersburg, FL yesterday...three cops, (all white), three cop cars.. (two unmarked) had stopped two (black) guys in a sedan in a corner parking lot, saw the second two pull up quickly as backup as I passed...I decided to stop a ways away (somewhat out of range, in case gunplay ensued) to observe...within two minutes there were over 40 other "observers", all black, within 20 ft. of the activity.....if I were a cop, I would be REALLY nervous in that situation (we've had three cops killed in the past few months, as well as a white security guard this week....ALL by blacks)!

The guy in the video was asking for it.....don't really understand the speeding getaway by the cop...what was the result of the whole deal?

I would be interested to get Crackers take on this. I think when the guy gets out of the car there is a possibly a disparity of force, but once they go hands on I think the cop should have been able to shoot. The question would be for the cop in the struggle is can he get out his weapon without getting it taken away. I can appreciate wanting to attempt to taze first as shooting an arguably unarmed man could have bad consequences. The guy definitely got the drop on the cop and the cop was playing defense the whole time.

Well after watching the unedited video - not the news report the cop does have time and opportunity to go to his gun but does not. I do not know if there was anything behind the cop car that might have prevented him from wanting to fire but he sure has the opportunity.

I bet if there was a shotgun attached to that dashboard ( of the cop car )we'd be reading a different story!

Yep, it would have been much more politically correct to take him in for a mental evaluation and then shoot the sum bich.

What's with the hip-hop dance?? 100mph down those narrow roads...hopefully he put himself down in that crash. There is NO room for these animals in our society, time to cull the herd.

I believe the individual, had a problem with too much coke. There was a case about 3 weeks ago in Columbia with a young individual with the same problem except he pulled out an AK-47. One cop shot but vest saved him. Coke head dead before he got a round off.

After seeing the description of what happened here, the guy should have been shot. What if he had killed someone during that chase in the stolen car. What if he had killed some kid riding a bike. I guarantee you would have rather the officer shot him when he had the chance. People do this crap because punishments aren't severe enough in the first place.

Of course I also believe in Mammurabi's Code for you historian buffs. You steal something, you get your hand chopped off. You rape someone, you are castrated. If the punishments fit the crimes, you would see a much lower crime rate guaranteed!

Yes, even sick people are capable of killing and stealing and getting themselves into dangerous situations. It's unfortunate, yes, that this happens but there is a time and a place for mental status evaluations and there is a time and a place for lethal force. This was one of those lethal force times, no matter what the mental health of the parties involved. To suggest that we are on a slope to shooting mentally ill people because they are mentally ill is not valid.

BTW, unless being a scum bag low life thief is a mental illness, this is not a mental illness issue. Just another selfish thug that was never taught right from wrong.
