Default Alabama

I just got back from 8 days up there helping restore power. I have to say, it's the sadest thing I've ever seen in my life. Those folks up there have it bad. I have many sad stories and pictures (i do not wish to share). All I can say is, kiss and hug your spouse and children everyday before you leave. You never know that it might be the last day you see them. Pray for those folks.

Thank you for the kind words. I am in Mobile and have had to deal with hurricanes. But these tornando's are a totally different creature.

I can't imagine what it's like to have your whole life changed in a two minute time span. Loved ones injured or killed.. House destroyed and all belongings gone.

I was listening to the radio the other day and they said that a small town of about 150 families was completely destroyed. Every house gone. 15 out of 16 businesses gone.

Praying for them every day.

Check out Red Cross here (most reliable organization, though I'm sure there are many local reliable church groups, etc)

Thanks from an Alabama resident.

Most of the churches in the area are taking any and all donations. I will find out for you and get you an address.

People like the RedCross ought to be distributing according to need, rather than geography. Lots of donations are going to Tuscaloosa, but the Pell Citys (and other small towns we haven't heard of) aren't getting the same treatment.

Red Cross should help level that playing field.

On the other hand, I heard somewhere that the mayor of Tuscaloosa is making an effort to re-distribute to those smaller towns, too....a very admirable thing to do.

Google up "tornado contributions to Alabama" and see what you find.

My Mississippi daughter has been working at some relief center in AL with the cooks from her camp. She said there are a lot of drop off places in MS for the Smithfield and Belmont victims at the local schools and churches. Very horrible situation.

I just donated to UW Tornado Relief Telethon through United Way of Central Alabama in case anyone else is looking. Seemed like a good way. You can also text TORNADO to 50555 to give $10.

I was working for the Florida Department of Insurance when Andrew hit Miami. We were handling insurance claim mediation, but because I have grown up down there and had worked in the hardest hit area, I really didn't want to go and avoided it until the following spring. I know what you mean about such things being sad and overwhelming. Even 5 months later, some places, including an apartment complex that my buddy had lived in back in the mid 80's. still looked like they had been bombed.
