I am all about fishing, but I find this disgusting, cruel, abusive, and totally unnecessary and unacceptable. What do you guys think?

And did you feel sorry for them (the japs) when they copped the tsunami?
I didn't because they do this shit all the time and the whale science research is
another load of crap.
And I wont ever forget what they did in the war to our Aussie soldiers.

To weep and moan for dolphins, then happily order veal parmesan is hypocritical in the extreme.

This clip has a political agenda--and it does exactly what it is supposed to do: Cause your emotions to overrun your rationality.

Take this to it's logical extreme--"Murdering" dolphins is bad, now isn't "murdering" smart little piggies just as bad? What about poor little calves and chickies? See where this is going??????????

If these mis-guided kooks expended half as much effort and time trying to eradicate hunger, poverty and suffering in HUMANS, as they do trying to save the "cute fuzzy animals"--the world would be a much better place in which to live.

....Man that guy is wise!

There is no graceful way to kill marine mammals. There is three areas in Japan with bays used to take dolphins. Westerners are not allowed anywhere near those bays when the dolphins are being killed.

The dolphins are food, consumed mostly by the people near the three bays. Younger people prefer McDonald's big macs, not dolphin meat.

Another problem with dolphin meat is the mercury level -- it's too high. Dolphins eat fish that are polluted with mercury. Coming soon, radioactive fish meat -- fish that migrate in and out of the Fukushima area where radioactive water was/will be pumped into the sea. The migrating fish will eat smaller, highly radioactive fish and swim into other areas.

I get home the other night and the fiance is watching TV with tears in her eyes watching blood dolphin, I don't know if anyone here has ever seen it, but it was disturbing. Then I started to think, we think eating dolphin and whale disgusting, however they might think eating deer and gator just outright strange.

Secondly, dolphin meet is very very high in mercury, so let them keep eating it, they are only killing them self.

Yeah, I did. The damage is ten-thousand times worse than anything you can imagine. Consider the town where the jr high school was on top of a hill -- all of those kids lived. But their siblings in elementary schools and high schools are gone. Their parents are gone. Their home is gone. Their town is gone. The only thing they have is the friends they know at the jr high school.

Four trains, one a bullet train, disappeared. They were running along the coast when the tsunami hit. Entire trains gone, just disappeared. They can't find them. In one area the water went over the top of a 7-store beach-side hotel. In another are folks watched as people a hospital were washed way -- laying in their beds with IV's and machines -- all of it washed away, up to the 4th floor.

The Japanese think it is strange to eat rabbit or snake, they don't. Also, most Japanese don't eat turtle. They also don't eat monkeys, dogs or cats, but anything in the ocean they can get their hands on, they eat.

You might want to look for YouTube videos about what the Australians are doing with kangaroos. They kill 10's of thousands of 'roos every year, and it ain't pretty. Makes the Japanese killing of dolphins look like art.

I tried to follow that story for a few weeks thinking they would turn up something.

I eat meat, but I don't agree with how the whole industry conducts itself behind the scenes, its very cruel and the animals suffer unnecessarily.

I also totally disagree with the dolphin and whale slaughters, that chit is totally unsat.

It's food -- they aren't pets. Japan whales because USofA General MacArthur ordered the Japanese to take whales as a way to provide protein to the population after Japan surrendered, e.g post WWII. Older Japanese have a 'taste' for whale. Younger Japanese prefer cheese burgers.

Also know that Japan gov't twice begged the USofA to stop slaughtering whales because they (the USofA) was destroying the whale herds. The Japanese eat damn near every part of a whale. The US whaling fleet was only after the whale fat (lubricant) and wasted -- WASTED all other parts of the animal.

We had this discussion here before -- how do you gracefully process an animal the size of a school bus? ;?

Fwiw, the USofA is still a whaling country. Per capita, the USofA 'takes' more whales than Japan. Oops! Other whaling nations include a couple of Caribbean island countries, Russia, Finland ... Iceland recently quit whaling.

I have eaten whale. Some of it is good, some parts I don't care for. The parts that are good are very, very good! There are about 80 different parts of a whale that are eaten in Japan.

This all may be, but the cruelty and torture is insane. You would think that as we evolve as people and a society, that we could do better. Just because it was done in the past, doesn't make it right to continue doing it now and in the future. I don't know, but for me seeing the animals get tortured, no matter what animal it is, is sick and unacceptable, and I believe we could do alot better........

Here's one high up government official's solution, ban hunting and have the dolphins lawyer up.

Cass Sunstein has also supported outlawing sport hunting, giving animals the legal right to file lawsuits and using government regulations to phase out meat consumption.

The center quotes Sunstein's 2007 speech at Harvard University, where he argued in favor of "eliminating current practices such as … meat eating" and proposed: "We ought to ban hunting, I suggest, if there isn't a purpose other than sport and fun. That should be against the law. It's time now."

He also said, "[Humans'] willingness to subject animals to unjustified suffering will be seen … as a form of unconscionable barbarity… morally akin to slavery and the mass extermination of human beings."

According to the group, Sunstein was editor of the 2004 book "Animal Rights: Current Debates and New Directions" that said "animals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives Any animals that are entitled to bring suit would be represented by (human) counsel, who would owe guardian-like obligations and make decisions, subject to those obligations, on their clients' behalf."

I think the bigger issue is that as our society has evolved we have evolved away from the food production system. Most people only see their food in a grocery store all neatly packed. I actually think that our slaughter houses and farms have done a pretty good job, based on what I have seen first hand, and not via a PETA video. Of course, you make a good point, there is always room for improvement. However, there is no way of killing an animal to make it look pretty.
