Default Theory in regards to the NHL

I have a theory that is growing….what say you?

- I’m watching the playoffs and I’m seeing penalties called that are a pussy footed as they get.
- I remember watching the “woman’s” Olympic hockey last year and saying to myself, “what, no checking…how boring”! I mean if a girl checked another she got a penalty, even the light hits drew penalties! I recall debating in my mind the idea of the woman’s hockey league making a run for a nationally televised professional league….I couldn’t see it flying because hockey is a contact sport!
- Right now on television in some commercial there is a little girl (approx. age 7) wearing goal equipment saying she’s going to play in the NHL one day…..bless her heart. Well this is the second commercial in a short while I’ve seen where a little girl is striving to play in the NHL, the other girl would have been a forward or defenseman of approx. the same age.

Well in my massively elongated cranium that never seems to stop thinking …I’ve putting two and two together….I don’t know if the two go together, but the pieces of the puzzle sure do appear to fit quite well.

Currently there is not many women that could stand up to the rigors and contact of today’s NHL hockey! So “IF” the NHL were to go down this road of allowing women to play in the NHL, how would they achieve this? Simple, they’d have to change the rules of the sport to accommodate them! Hmmmmm…

- Oh sure we can say the players of the NHL has to wear helmet to protect their heads because of the high sticks and cheap shots.
- Oh sure we can say the players of the minor leagues need to wear face/ eye protection to protect their precious sight…..and this trend expends it’s self into the NHL.
- Oh sure we can say the players of the NHL don’t need to fight because it does the sport no good and it accomplish nothing……so we’ll penalize the hell out of them for doing it.
- Pick the playoffs because the most amount of people are watching the sport…..show how contact that once was fair play will no longer be tolerated. I think you get the general drift of where I’m going here, etc, etc.

Well back to my earlier comment in regards to this year’s playoffs and penalty calling. I do want to say up front I do NOT like Gary Bettman and what he stands for! Gary is the Commissioner of the National
Hockey League. I believe because of what I’ve seen him do and the directions he’s taking he is trying to take over the Canadian sport (hockey) and make it an American sport. He’s denying Canadian markets from owning new hockey franchise and yet he’s forcing the league into the deep south that has basically never seen snow before. Proven markets vs people that worship the sun and heat. Have you not noticed when one of the teams from the lower 48 states get into the playoffs the penalty minutes are in favor of the southern teams? That or timing of the penalties for the southern teams does them the greatest good for a positive outcome? Well I certainly have over the years! And the lopsided penalty calling becomes grossly obvious the closer a southern team gets to the Stanley Cup, especially if the southern team is playing a Canadian team!!!

So if Bettman is manipulating the league in the ways I believe him to be doing, then I can easily see him manipulating the league in such a way to accommodate women's play! After all his pursuit of the south for expanding hockey has everything to do with making money, therefore I think the weasel will stop at nothing, including having women join the league! All Bettman has to do is chisel away at how rough the men play and soften them up to girls play. I’m pretty certain I’ll see it in my life time.

Only problem is, women are allowed to play in the NHL, and a woman has already made an NHL roster in the past.

Garret. a no check game is boring? It is probably the opposite. Checking slows the game down.
