Default Educate me on Pool Slides for my pier?!?!?!?

WHY are they so darn expensive??

Does anyone have any connections or way to buy them cheaper? I was thinking $500 would get me a bada$$ slide, boy was I wrong.

I am open to used...really anything that will work on my pier and be fun for 5 boys between the ages of 4 and 13.

My neighbor used a big plastic water pipe leftover from a muncipal waterline installation.
It is like 20 feet long and 24" diameter, maybe bigger.
He cut it in half length wise with a circular saw and the router rounder the edges.
Used treated wood to create the ladder and other supports.
No idea how long it will last in the sun due to no UV stuff in it.
But it was cheap enough and he still has the other half to slap in when this one breaks.
Of course it is just straight and not the fancy corkscrew.
I keep telling him we need to build an oven to heat up one end so we can mold it a bit to get a "launch ramp" into it.

you could get one hell of a playground slide for that doe. The only difference is that you would have to get the water to run down it somehow. I do not think that would be too hard!

Craigslist or Ebay- I found one for $250 -nearly brand new- people were losing their house and selling everything prior to sending their bank the "jingle mail".

Insurance company's are making homeowners remove existing slides and diving boards before they will write a new policy. I removed a slide for a customer the other day. She was dropped by her previous company for placing a claim to have a fallen tree removed. Anyone in NJ want a slide?
