Default Honda Element.....anyone own one?

Looking at buying a nice used car for my youngest daughter, and I have read good things about the Honda Element. Looking a 2005 that is nicely equipped.

Any good bad or ugly?

Andy,

As you can see, I was the one that started that thread.

As of about 2 weeks ago, my daughter had about 2K miles on hers and LOVES it! Don't have any other "details", but she's VERY happy with it and thinks she made the right decision.

Not sure how much they have changed from 2005 to 2011? 2005's may have been close to the first ones made - not sure?

You might check and see if the engine and/or drivetrain have changed over the years.

My wife's '06 Accord we bought new has 75K+ miles on it and all we've done is replace the battery and ONE tire (sidewall damage). It IS about "ready" for 3 more tires, but it's been a GREAT car!

"EPA highway estimate" on the Accord is 34mpg (standard 4-banger, automatic) - I've seen 39.3mpg with it!

I don't think you could go wrong if it's in good shape and been properly serviced.

Oh - with the money you've made off this site, WHY aren't you doing your daughter "justice" and popping for a 'Vette or a late model Benz "SL"??? ;?

Regards,

My wife just traded her 2004 Element on a new Subaru (we needed the third seat in the back for our new son) She loved the element, bought it new and it treated us good. When we traded it we had just under 90k miles on it and never had any issue. It pulled my little boat just fine all through the mountains here in Wyoming and the AWD system went through the snow better than my truck.

In other words, I highly recommend them

George

Wife has an 03. Around 150k and is still going strong she gets between 24 an 26 mpg. Plus she uses it for work and you would be totally shocked to see how much stuff will fit.

A former employee of mine had one for four years and recently sold it for a surprising amount. He was an avid golfer and used it religiously for hauling around clubs and other golfers. Loved it.

I also have a sales rep who drives one. His territory is Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Mn, WI and he's got a ton of miles on it but says he has never had a problem.

I think they look weird, but these two guys loved theirs.

Thanks for the remarks guys. We've been looking for good used ones, and happen to check out the new Kia Soul's when we were having our truck worked on. Considering one of those now too.

I have a current employee with a Kia (little sporty suv thing I can't remember the name) and she's had nothing but problems with it. She's owned it for three years, so maybe there were model issues. I also don't know that she is the type to take care of her car regularly. FWIW

Do you or your daughter REALLY want to own a car with the name "Soul"??? ;?

Neighbor has had a KIA "Sportage" - bought new - for at least 3-4 years and I think she's had very little, if any, problems.

My daughter's main "objective" was to get something suited for caving/camping, so the "flexibility" of the interior was a BIG selling point with her.

Good for you seeking out a good little car for your daughter - no matter what you get!

One thing on the element . If for any reason you transport them make sure they are not loaded backwards. The back window is not designed to be transported this way. Make sure the carrier knows this or they will be replacing the window for you.
We are not even allowed to haul them backwards from the rail yards.
Fun cars, lots of room. Good luck......

We ended up "pulling the trigger" (never been able to actually say that on the THT....I know how some just love that saying) on a 2011 Kia Soul plus. Didn't want to spend the $$ on a new Honda Element, and just couldn't find a used one that worked out mileage wise, and $$ wise. Our daughter is going to school this fall for criminal justice and will be off our island while going to school and the academy. In end she needs good reliable transportation, so mom and dad can sleep at night. 100,000 mile 10 year warranty.

Thanks for the advice.

I own one as well. My mom drives it 100% of the time. AWD. Excellent, highly recommended.
