Default Florida concealed carry permit question

After many years of telling myself I would one day get my permit, I finally did it! Anyhow, I sent everything about 3-4 weeks ago. They say to allow 6-8 weeks! Anyone recently apply and get their permit? If so, how long did it end up taking? They have a phone in code to check the status, but all it says is that they are "processing" my permit. I just hate waiting!

Last year or two they have had to hire many "temps" to help with the huge flood of applicants... If you sent your fingerprints after getting them electronically scanned that should help speed up your license some...

FL CCW is good for 7 years...

I think VA law REQUIRES that they (the court) must either "approve" - or give good reason why not - withIN 45 days from turning in the app.

I think mine took about 2-3 weeks, but that was late March, 2008 - they (County Circuit Court) were LOADED with applications back then.

Ours are good for 5 years - what about you other folks? ;?

Regards,

In about 1/08 they changed to 7 years from 5. I got mine in 6/08 and it had changed right before I got mine.

I applied in person at the Tampa office, while we were on vacation in Feb. They mailed it to the RV park where we were staying, in a little over 2 weeks.

If you sent it to Tallahassee it takes a while. Best bet is to find a local Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services office and submit it there. The one in FWB takes maybe a week. I've recommended that to everyone since I found out it was there.

Here in PA, you have to apply in person. They're good for 5 yrs. I've got another yr to go on my 1st renewal (ie. I've had a permit for 9 yrs). Can't remember the turnaround time though.

I'll never forget the 1st time I went to the county sheriff's office to apply. The officer said to the guy in front of me "Why didn't you put your real name on the application?" To which the guy replied, "But officer, that is my real name". The cop said, "No it isn't. I know because I arrested you last week, don't you remember.". At which point the guy turned around and walked out. The cop looked at me and shook his head and said, "Don't worry, we won't be giving him a permit".

you are LEO and still required to have a permit? Don't get that...
And that would make sense, that is about the time I got mine maybe just a month or two later figures....

how bad is the renewal process?

I have a permit for several reasons...

1. In Florida, even being LEO, if I want a handgun 3 day wait with badge, no wait with CCW. (Crazy huh)
2. If I carry under a CCW I can carry whatever weapon I want to and not be restricted by dept. policy.

I've never had a gun but I am curious, is it like a driver's license, if you have a permit in one state is it good in all 50 states?

In Louisiana there is a backlog like most places. If you get printed locally(not digital) and mail in all the required paperwork, it takes 2-3 months. If you bring your application to the state office in the capital and have them digitally fingerprint you, it takes just a few weeks. Good for 5 yrs.
