Default Anyone see the Vet in Texas rear ended on his motorcycle?

A very lucky guy as he is still alive and was thrown off to the right and not hit by another car.

Man, it makes me realize that I was wise to get out while I am still alive and functioning. Just too many people not paying attention in traffic nowadays and the chance of getting rear-ended is just too great.

Yeah, right, dodge bullets, roadside bombs/IED's, come home to dangerous roads/highways.

Up here in MA, the motorcycle/donorcycle season has begun and it will be any day now of the first fatality(ies).

I love to ride, but I am actually considering hanging it up. There are so many distracted drivers out there. I'm hearing of more and more people getting rear ended. Three in as many months. Not on bikes, but while sitting in their car. And in every instance, the driver that caused the accident was busy texting while driving. Last week, I was sitting at a busy red light in the left turning lane. While I was sitting at the red light, I was watching the cars that were coming through the intersection the other way. Roughly 1/4th of them were not looking where they were going. They were looking down at something, eyes not on the road. I get so mad when I see that, I'd love to just yank the phone out of a driver's hands and toss it as far as I could. Not that I ever would, but it does really tick me off. That and the idiots that throw cigarette butts out the window.

The driver of the vehicle who hit him didn't have insurance or a driver's license. I wonder if the cops impounded his vehicle?
That vet has an angel on his shoulder, for sure...

HUGE wildfire threat here in Texas right now and some dipstick smokers are still pitching lit butts out the window as they cruise down the highway. The ignorance / stupidity some people possess astonishes me to no end...

It looked like the bike's tires were smoking from him braking to aviod hitting the car in front. The news I just watched, said the driver of the car had NO driver's license, got multiple tickets, but was not taken to jail. WTF? He should got to jail for driving without a DL!
I got in a motorcycle accident last year (actuall had surgery on this date last year), and I have since stopped riding. For me it's just not worth losing my life because someone is distracted while driving.

I hung it up just before cellphones started to become common. I can't imagine what it's like to ride now with texting idjits on the road.

I ain't quitting just yet but I do find myself riding more cautiously and on less traveled roads. Most of the close calls I have had were "Muffy in the SUV on the Godamned cell phone". When my kids were getting their license I always told them to look for motorcycles. If you look for motorcycles, you will see a car. If you look for cars, you might not see a motorcycle.

Same here. I forgot where I learned that. I think they teach that in the MSF course.

To give a little more detail, never pull up close to the vehicle in front of you. I use my judgement, but I'll say at least 1 bike length back. Probably more like 1 1/2. Bike angled, ussually toward the right. Bike in gear (never in neutral), keep an eye on the vehicle coming up behind you through the mirror. If they look like they are coming in way too fast, dump the clutch and you exit in the direction your bike's pointed.

He said he had just passed the car that rear ended him. It was driving erratically and slowly and the occupants seemed to be dancing in their seats. He eased around them and pulled back into the lane. They just drove right into him and the car in front of him.

Bouncing around in their seat. mmm. Wonder if they were of the darker skinned race. See that a lot around here.

The scariest I read about is every Motorcycle week up here in New Hampshire, older "white" male/female drivers, they go right over the centerlines on the 2-way roads/highways and bowl over an entire row of motorcyclists, like 10-pins.

And more mayhem; the motorcycle riders that are riding for the benefit of another motorcyclist that got hit and killed, they too, get hit and killed during the benefit ride of all things. The chances we take . . .

Amazing that it happened to get caught on tape/video.

It used to be the drivers you had to worry about the most were the old guys driving the big cadilacs and wearing the Tom Landry hat. Don't see too many of them anymore however.

People these days either can't drive or they are too distracted by other things. The person that hit the guy on the bike should have his/her driver license revoked for life!

And what is with the elderly driving their cars into store fronts and crowds of people these days? I think once you hit the age of 65 you should have to take a driving test every year as well as a vision test.

And once you drive into a store front or a crowd of people thats it! You are not allowed to drive ever again.

I see this every day on the local news....every day! And that just locally!

Right, even the buildings and houses aren't safe, absolutely. I imagine down in FL, a lot of accidents don't even make the news it is so common down there.

Up here on Cape Cod, there are head on collisions every day as there are a lot of retirees.

These poor people at a hospital got it one day;

A few weeks ago, responding to an apt. fire with lights and sirens blarring, my driver straddleing the center lane to prevent being passed, we see an elderly latin female driver in our mirrors, right on our a$$ waving frantically and giving us the finger, to get out of her way . Just have to laugh.
